The present work search to study the regression on variablesdummies. More specifically, to revise the theory and the cases where theycan be used, in order to elaborate, in a succinct form, a simple and includingmaterial on the subject, capable to assist in research and works. After theformalization, will present the operational procedures to execute them,with aid of computational resources, using in such a way, the Statisticasoftware version 5.1.

The main purpose of this research is to apply the regression control chart as tool of statistical control to monitor productive processes, where a state variable that is of interest can be expressed as function of a control variable. Several studies exist to control variables in productive processes, but most of time they are separately in relation to the control of each variable, and however not could be used for a comparative study. This research, therefore, it presents an efficient technique to control simultaneous by correlated variables.

Assessment of glycohemoglobin, plasma glucose curve and C-reactive protein as complementary predictors to diagnose prediabetes: a transversal study

Results Overall, 26 individuals had prediabetes, 28 did not have prediabetes (22 had 1h-OGTT>fasting glycemia, 6 had 1h-OGTT≤fasting glycemia) and 5 had diabetes. The 1h-OGTT≤fasting glycemia and diabetes groups were excluded, and then a non-parametric test (Mann-Whitney U test) was used to analyze data. There were no statistical differences between 1h-OGTT>fasting glycemia and prediabetes groups in the analysis of glycohemoglobin [5.15 (4.8-5.4); 5.20 (5.10-5.4); p=0.17 ], C-reactive protein [3.70 (1.8-8.9); 3.96 (1.45-7.13); p=0.38], lipids and malondialdehyde, but there were differences in fasting, 30, 60 and 120 min glycemia, insulin level [11(8-13); 13(10-18); p=0.04], Homeostatic Model Assessment-IR [2.45(1.932.95); 3.30(2.51-5.02); p=0.00] and carbonyl protein [0.48 (0.42-0.58); 0.57 (0.5-0.76); p=0.02].

Caracterização das queimadas acidentais em campo, no Município de Santa Maria-RS

The objetive of this research was to conduct a study on accidental field burns in the county of Santa Maria-RS, Brazil to identify and characterize sites where they most frequently occur with the objective of helping in the planning and controlling of those burns. The variable of interest was the number of daily calls received by the Santa Maria Fire Department, from January 1st 1993 to December 31st 2004. It was observed that the Fire Department received on average 1.81 daily calls; that the calls were followed by a dry period of four days, on average; and most calls occurred during the afternoon and alongside the almost unhabited RS 287 highway. The month with the highest number of calls was August, and the year 1999 presented the highest occurrence number of field burns. Finally, the number of calls was equally distributed along the weekdays. The margins of the highways and the following city districts: Distrito Industrial, Medianeira, Itarare, Tomazzetti and Parque Pinheiro Machado presented the highest chances of burnings occurrence.
