In the modern theory of production prices — which is mainly derived from the works of Sraffa, Von Neumann and Leontief — the question of the relation between such prices and those actually prevailing in the economy has been for a long time almost completly neglected.

Abstract The role of international competitiveness in economic growth is examined within the ‘Kaldorian’ approach i.e. an approach in which aggregate demand plays a crucial role in economic growth. Its positive effect on investment and its non-monotonic link with the balance of trade are stressed. These features, together with a Verdoorn-Kaldor equation, are embodied in a one-commodity, n -country model, in which virtuous and vicious circles of cumulative causation may take place and generate divergent paths. Finally, it is shown how this model could be used for interpreting the recent experience of fast-growing, outwardoriented economies.

Abstract This note is concerned with the applications of Goodwins method of principal coordinates to dynamic analysis. Its connection with standard results on linear differential equations systems are briefly outlined and some reasons for its potential usefulness in this field are indicated. It is also pointed out that Goodwins applications of the method, as the example that is worked out in detail suggests, do not always seem to be correct. In the Appendix the connections with some earlier work by Goodwin are also considered.

A recent paper by Ryzhenkov considers also a paper of mine, where increasing returns to scale are a crucial ingredient. According to Ryzhenkov, my specification of increasing returns is not correct. In this paper I shall show that on the contrary, it is his specification that is not correct while mine is well grounded in the main contributions to this field of literature. Further criticisms addressed to my paper will also receive a reply.
