Bouvardia viticella (Rubiaceae, Spermacoceae), a New Species from the Mixed Temperate Forest of Mexico

Francisco G. Lorea-Hernández; Lucio Lozada-Pérez

ABSTRACT Bouvardia viticella Lorea-Hernández & Lozada-Pérez is described and illustrated. This new species is distinguished by its scandent habit, main stem thick suberose at base, plinerved leaves, white flowers, short corolla tube evenly pubescent within, and corolla lobes densely papillose adaxially. Partial inflorescences and exserted anthers in short-styled flowers place it in Bouvardia Salisbury subg. Bouvardiastrum Schlechtendal, but its relationships below this level are not so clear.

AbstractDuring the study of the Lamiaceae from Guerrero, Mexico, specimens of Lepechinia sect.

Valencia Avalos

Quercus nixoniana is described as a new species from the states of Jalisco, Guerrero, and Oaxaca at Sierra Madre del Sur, Mexico. It is included in Quercus sect. Lobatae Loudon (red oaks) because of the leaves with a terminal seta, the tomentose endocarp, and the base of the pistil- late perianth free, forming a skirt or flange. It re- sembles Q. salicifolia Nee and Q. crispifolia Tre- lease in the lanceolate blade, indument, and canescent acorns. A key for distinguishing the three taxa is included.
