On the nonminimal vector coupling in the Duffin―Kemmer―Petiau theory and the confinement of massive bosons by a linear potential

T.R. Cardoso; Luis B. Castro; A. S. de Castro

The vector couplings in the Duffin–Kemmer–Petiau (DKP) theory have been revised. It is shown that minimal and nonminimal vector potentials behave differently under charge-conjugation and time-reversal transformations. In particular, it is shown that nonminimal vector potentials have been erroneously applied to the description of elastic meson–nucleus scatterings and that the space component of the nonminimal vector potential plays a crucial role for the confinement of bosons. The DKP equation with nonminimal vector linear potentials is mapped into the nonrelativistic harmonic oscillator problem and the behavior of the solutions for this sort of DKP oscillator is discussed in detail. Furthermore, the absence of Kleins paradox and the localization of bosons in the presence of nonminimal vector interactions are discussed.

Fermion localization on two-field thick branes

Luis B. Castro

In a recent paper published in this journal, Almeida and collaborators [Phys. Rev. D 79, 125022 (2009)] analyze the issue of fermion localization of fermions on a brane constructed from two scalar fields coupled with gravity (Bloch brane model). In that meritorious research the simplest Yukawa coupling {eta}{Psi}{phi}{chi}{Psi} was considered. That work does not analyze the zero mode in details. In this paper, the localization of fermions on two-field thick branes is reinvestigated. It is found that the simplest Yukawa coupling does not support the localization of fermions on the brane. In addition, the problem of fermion localization for some other Yukawa couplings are analyzed. It is shown that the zero mode for left-handed and right-handed fermions can be localized on the brane depending on the values for the coupling constant {eta} and the Bloch branes parameter a.

Fermion localization on branes with generalized dynamics

Luis B. Castro; L. E. Arroyo Meza

In this letter we consider a specific model of braneworld with nonstandard dynamics diffused in the literature, specifically we focus our attention on the matter energy density, the energy of system, the Ricci scalar and the thin-brane limit. As the model is classically stable and capable of localize gravity, as a natural extension we address the issue of fermion localization of fermions on a thick brane constructed out from one scalar field with nonstandard kinetic terms coupled with gravity. The contribution of the nonstandard kinetic terms to the problem of fermion localization is analyzed. It is found that the simplest Yukawa coupling supports the localization of fermions on the thick brane. It is shown that the zero mode for left-handed fermions can be localized on the thick brane depending on the values for the coupling constant ?.

Inconsistencies of a purported probability current in the Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau theory

T.R. Cardoso; Luis B. Castro; A. S. de Castro

Abstract The Duffin–Kemmer–Petiau (DKP) equation with a square step potential is used in a simple way with polymorphic purposes. It proves adequate to refuse a proposed new current that is currently interpreted as a probability current,to show that the Klein paradox does exist in the DKP theory and to revise other minor misconceptions diffused in the literature.

Quantum dynamics of scalar bosons in a cosmic string background

Luis B. Castro

The quantum dynamics of scalar bosons embedded in the background of a cosmic string is considered. In this work, scalar bosons are described by the Duffin–Kemmer–Petiau (DKP) formalism. In particular, the effects of this topological defect in the equation of motion, energy spectrum, and DKP spinor are analyzed and discussed in detail. The exact solutions for the DKP oscillator in this background are presented in closed form.
