PV system modeling by five parameters and in situ test

Luis Fialho; Rui Melício; Víctor Manuel Fernandes Mendes

This paper focuses on a novel formalization for assessing the five parameter modeling of a photovoltaic cell. An optimization procedure is used as a feasibility problem to find the parameters tuned at the open circuit, maximum power, and short circuit points in order to assess the data needed for plotting the I-V curve. A comparison with experimental results is presented for two monocrystalline PV modules.

Simulation of a-Si PV system linked to the grid by DC-DC boost and two-level converter

Luis Fialho; Rui Melício; Víctor Manuel Fernandes Mendes; Luis Rodrigues; S. Viana; Ana Estanqueiro

This paper is about a PV system linked to the electric grid by power electronic converters. The modeling for the converters emulates the association of a DC-DC boost with a two-level power inverter in order to follow the performance of a testing commercial inverter employed on an experimental system. It is used pulse width modulation by sliding mode control associated with space vector modulation for control the boost and the inverter. The PV system is described by the five parameters equivalent circuit and parameter identification is carried out. Maximum power point tracking is implemented by a ∂P/∂V procedure. Simulation studies are performed and a comparison with the testing experimental system is presented.

Simulation of a-Si PV System Linked to the Grid by DC Boost and Three-Level Inverter Under Cloud Scope

Luis Fialho; Rui Melício; Víctor Manuel Fernandes Mendes; Manuel Collares-Pereira

This paper is about a PV system linked to the electric grid through power converters under cloud scope. The PV system is modeled by the five parameters equivalent circuit and a MPPT procedure is integrated into the modeling. The modeling for the converters models the association of a DC-DC boost with a three-level inverter. PI controllers are used with PWM by sliding mode control associated with space vector modulation controlling the booster and the inverter. A case study addresses a simulation to assess the performance of a PV system linked to the electric grid. Conclusions regarding the integration of the PV system into the electric grid are presented.

Amorphous Solar Modules Simulation and Experimental Results: Effect of Shading

Luis Fialho; Rui Melício; Víctor Manuel Fernandes Mendes; João R. Figueiredo; Manuel Collares-Pereira

This paper focuses on the modeling of PV systems by the five parameters model, consisting on a current controlled generator, single-diode, a shunt and series resistances. An assessment for the identification of the parameters is used requiring data on open circuit, maximum power and short circuit tests. A simulation of a photovoltaic system on a parallel of two series connected amorphous solar modules under the effect of partial shading is presented. The estimated parameters are validated by a comparison with experimental measurements on photovoltaic modules.

Poly-Si PV system grid connected and fuzzy controlled

Luis Fialho; Rui Melício; Víctor Manuel Fernandes Mendes

This paper is about a poly-Si PV system linked to the electric grid by power electronic converters. The modeling for the converters emulates the association of a DC-DC boost with a two-level power inverter in order to follow the performance of a inverter employed on an experimental system. A fuzzy PI control is used with pulse width modulation by sliding mode associated with space vector modulation for controlling the converters. Maximum power point tracking is modeled. The PV system is modeled by a five parameter equivalent circuit. The parameter identification is carried out with an optimization method. A comparison between results of model simulation with experimental ones is presented.
