Nickel was electrodeposited from choline chloride (ChCl)-based deep eutectic solvents (DESs) containing ethylene glycol (EG) and urea (U) on Cu substrate. The influence of the temperature and of DESs nature was evaluated. The diffusion coefficients of nickel varied from 2.2 × 10 −9 to 3.7 × 10 −8 cm 2 s −1 for ChCl:2U and from 1.3 × 10 −8 to 5.8 × 10 −8 cm 2 s −1 for ChCl:2EG with increasing temperature. The nucleation process of Ni on Cu at 70 °C was determined as instantaneous in ChCl:2EG and progressive in ChCl:2U using Scharifker and Hills model. The SEM characterization showed that with increasing temperature, more compact coatings were obtained. Linear polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy were used to evaluate the corrosion performance of the obtained deposits in 3.5% NaCl. The coatings were more protective as higher the temperature of deposition, with polarization resistance (Rp) values from 3.53 to 19.11 kΩ cm 2

Abstract The macro- and microtextures of gas metal arc welds fabricated using both conventional ferritic and low transformation temperature (LTT) filler metals were examined. Both welds were largely composed of acicular ferrite. The weld textures were found to be distinct, which is observed to be due to variant selection during the austenite to ferrite transformation. In situ electron backscatter diffraction performed during thermal cycling of the LTT fusion zone into the austenite phase field confirmed that these transformations satisfy the expected crystallographic relationships. Implications for welding consumable design and finite element process modelling are drawn.

The effect of water on the physicochemical properties of an ethylene glycol and choline chloride mixture containing Cu2+ ions was investigated by electrochemical techniques and molecular dynamics simulation. The experiments and computational calculations were carried out by increasing the water content from 0 up to 10% (v/v). The cyclic voltammetry and chronopotentiometry techniques showed that the diffusion coefficient of Cu2+ ions increased and that the peak potentials for both the Cu2+/Cu+ and Cu+/Cu redox couples shifted towards more positive potentials with the increase in the water content in the solution. The molecular dynamics simulation indicated that the water molecules replaced the ethylene glycol molecules that were coordinated with Cu2+ ions, while the interactions between Cu2+ and Cl- ions were not influenced by the presence of water.

An extraction method based on solid-phase extraction was developed to determine the major alkaloid components, N,N-dimethyltryptamine, harmine, harmaline, harmalol, and tetrahydroharmine, in ayahuasca using ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Coconut charcoal and menthone-thiosemicarbazone polymer were tested as new adsorbent materials. Experiments carried out at levels of 1, 5, 10, 50, 100, and 250 μg mL resulted in recoveries in the ranges 45.3-115.7% for menthone-thiosemicarbazone and 40.6-116.2% for coconut charcoal. The detection and quantification limits ranged from 0.003 to 0.016 μg mL and from 0.009 to 0.043 μg mL, respectively. The method developed was linear over the tested range (0.05-1.0 μg mL), with correlation coefficients ranging from 0.9969 to 0.9998. The technique was applied for analysis of the compounds in an ayahuasca sample collected from a religious group located in the city of Fortaleza, obtaining concentrations in the range from 0.3 to 19.3 mg mL.
