Despite the scuba diving training classes, many accidents in recreational scuba diving still occur, because of scuba divers that do not follow the safety procedures. Two virtual environments were developed, one for training and another to evaluate the knowledge about safety procedures in scuba diving, and both were validated by: questionnaires about usability and understanding of the interfaces; by experts’ evaluation and by written conventional tests. However there is doubt whether these results reflect a real situation. The purpose of this research is to verify if the Virtual Environment for Training improves the performance and the behavior of scuba divers regarding the performance and behavior during practice in real life. Results showed that in some requisites it did, and in others, the behavior was similar to the ones that had conventional training.

In some health courses at a distance, there is difficulty the student during the learning of certainsubjects, such as the practice of mechanical ventilation, so we developed a 3D simulator of acardiopulmonary interaction in order to assist in the teaching of mechanical ventilation in intensivetherapy. The simulator uses tools from Google Android platform, with features of softwareengineering and object-oriented language, seeking to meet the quality standards of ISO9126standard. Exploratory testing conducted by a multidisciplinary team concluded that subcharacteristics of the standard were partially met. It is suggested by this study that the simulator canbe useful in the teaching and learning of mechanical ventilation to students and health professionalswho work in intensive care units.

The proposal of this work is the development and implementation of a software counseling for dental patients, guiding them on chronic diseases and their impact on oral health and also encourage prevention of Systemic Diseases, from interactions with a multidisciplinary team made by Dentist and Computer Engineer, considering the principles of Software Engineering, the NBR ISO / IEC 9126 and ISO / IEC 14598 processes of that govern the development and evaluation of software. Through the ASP. NET was possible to apply a software in order to lowest cost, with maximum adherence to design standards and good programming practices, offering the user /patient another channel to awareness of chronic diseases and pathologies that affect oral health

This work has developed a predictive control solution based on specific models for the process of ethanol distillation. The advantages of such control are relative to the prediction of the consequences of the disturbances by the model, thus enabling the control action to be done in a previous manner, resulting in the minimization of the variables fluctuation controlled by the process. This results in, among other advantages, energy economy, in the improvement of the ethanol produced and in the increasing production capacity. Another desirable characteristic in this control mode is its capacity to act in non-linear systems as is the case of the distillation columns. Finally, it must be noted that with the application of an advanced control solution, as proposed in this study, it becomes viable, in a second moment, for the ethanol plants to operate in multiple operational conditions, such as: 1) maximum energy economy (scarcity of raw material, for example) and: 2) maximum production condition (for situations with excess of materials to be distilled). The models developed in this project will consist of purely empirical models. Several tests will be done in the different types of models to measure the precision and robustness. The proposed control strategy demonstrated be able to control selected control loops adequately. Steam savings and reduction of product losses were observed.
