The rate of nitration of 4-bromo- and 4-chloro-1-methylpyrazoles with nitric acid in various concentrations of sulfuric acid is higher at position 5 than at position 3.

The reaction of 4-bromo-1-methyl-3-nitropyrazole-5- and 4-bromo-1-methyl-5-nitro-pyrazole-3-carboxylic acids with arylamines in aqueous solution in the presence of monovalent copper salts leads to the formation of 4-arylamino- and 4-hydroxy substituted nitropyrazolecarboxylic acids.

Nitration of pyrazolo[4,3-b]quinolinones

The nitration of 1-methyl-4H-pyrazolo[4,3-b]quinolin-9-one and some of its derivatives with nitric acid in sulfuric acid and acetic anhydride was studied. It was established that the number and site of incorporation of the nitro groups depends on the nature of the attacking agent, the reaction conditions, and the substituents present in the molecule.
