A review of studies on the use of the chelate complexes as adsorbents and stationary liquid phases in gas chromatography is made. Data on the processes of complex formation at the phase interface and on the target production of the chelate-containing sorbents with preset properties are generalized. Practical application of the chelate-containing chromatographic packings for analytical separation and sorption concentration of organic substances is considered.

The preconcentration of phenol and its homologues by sorption on a polymethacrylate sorbent followed by capillary gas-chromatographic determination is studied. The optimal sorption conditions are the following: the sorbent mass, 400 mg; the volume of aqueous solution with pH 3, 150 mL; the flow rate of solution, 3–4 mL/min; and the volume of ethylacetate for elution, 3 mL. The detection limit is 0.7–1.0 μg/mL.

The separation ability of surface layers of nickel dimethylglyoximate and acetylacetonate bonded to Silochrom S-80 silica gel was studied. The selectivity of separation was estimated for different classes of organic compounds. It was demonstrated that the studied sorbents are promising for the separation of complex mixtures of high-boiling aromatic compounds and oxygen-containing compounds.

The separation of mixtures of phenols, alcohols, and alkylbenzenes by gas chromatography on adsorption layers of nickel and copper alizarinates was investigated. The thermodynamic parameters were calculated. It was shown that the sorbates differ in strength of interaction with the copper and nickel ions in their alizarin complexes.

There has been designed a sensor with detectors based on adsorption layers of metals acetylacetonates to measure air pollution components concentration. The electrical conductivity of the obtained sensor was studied under various synthesis conditions, temperature and detected substances kinds. The sensor was tested on model gaseous mixture and applied to detect organic substances in the environment.

The paper studies selective extraction of organic fractions with antioxidant activity from plant raw materials on the new sorbent with surface layer of phthalocyanine metal complexes and further HPLC determination. The possibility of sorption concentration of the antioxidant substances amount, which include mostly vitamin B groups, on the layer of copper phthalocyanine on polymer sorbent Polysorb-2. We determined antioxidant composition of honeysuckle, huckleberry and cowberry juice, namely, gallus, gentisinic, chlorogenic, caffeic, cumaric and p-methoxybenzoic acids; epicatechin and quercetine. Detection limit of this technique is 5 mg/l using copper phthalocyanine in the concentrator.

It was shown that tocoferol acetate can be preconcentrated on a nickel acetyl acetonate layer grafted onto the chromatone HMDS in the presence of other organic molecules. Optimum conditions were found for preconcentration and the next desorption. Results of determining vitamin E in polyvitamin preparations are reported.

A procedure was developed for determination of metal traces in polypropylene on chromatographic sorbents and phases of various polarities. The thermal stability of volatile aluminum, chromium, and gallium acetylacetonates under the conditions of gas chromatography was studied. The influence exerted on the determination process by the column material, temperature, and polarity of phases was examined.
