A cylindrical scintillating-fiber tracker for the measurement of the polar coordinate θ has been built for experiment E835 at Fermilab. This detector combines the high granularity, flexibility and fast response of the scintillating fibers with the high quantum efficiency of the Visible-Light Photon Counters (VLPC). Complete results about the tracker performance are given: tracking and timing resolution, photoelectron yield per mip, detection efficiency, single–double-track discrimination.

E835 studied the properties of the charmonium states formed in pp annihilations. Recent and preliminary results are presented, including new preliminary measurements of χcJ masses and widths (improving the knowledge of fine splitting of P states), a preliminary measurement of ψ(2S) branching ratios, and of the two photon partial width of the χc0.

A cylindrical 860-channel scintillating-fiber tracker for the measurement of the polar coordinate θ has been built for experiment 835 at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory; it was used during the data-taking period, from October 1996 through September 1997. The high granularity, flexibility and fast response of the scintillating fibers are combined with the high quantum efficiency of the Visible-Light Photon Counters. From this combination, a new kind of detector arises, capable of high-resolution tracking, fast first-level kinematical triggering and single/double-track discrimination. Results of the tracker performance are presented.
