A volatile erbium(III)/β-diketonate compound symmetrically bridged by tetraglyme

Abstract The erbium(III) β-diketonate [Er(tmhd) 3 2 (tetraglyme)] [tmhd-H = 2,2,6,6-tetramethylheptane-3, 5-dione and tetraglyme = CH 3 O(CH 2 CH 2 O) 4 CH 3 ] was obtained as crystals from the reaction of hydrated “Er(tmhd) 3 ” and half an equivalent of tetraglyme in hexane. The X-ray crystal structure of [Er(tmhd) 3 2 (tetraglyme)] reveals two Er(tmhd) 3 moieties linked by a bridging tetraglyme molecule. The erbium atoms have distorted squareantiprismatic geometries.
