A checklist of all Rhinaulacini (Auchenorrhyncha: Cercopidae) from southern Asia is given, together with a key for all the genera, new distributional records, and keys and figures of the species of Sounama, Kanozata and Circulocercopis gen. nov. New taxa are described and taxonomic changes proposed (see ‘Summary of proposed taxonomic changes’). Scanning electron micrographs of the head and antennal sensilla of the male adult of Sounama (Stenaulophrys) borneensis are provided.

The leafhopper tribe Scaphytopiini is reviewed, and a key to genera given. The following taxonomic changes are made: Masiripius lugubris (Distant) comb. nov. (from Mahalana); Mahalana Distant, junior synonym of Platymetopius Burmeister syn. nov. (Athysanini); Hododoecus bunyensis Evans comb. nov. (from Stenometopius) (Stenometopiini). In addition, the monotypic genus Nesothamnus Linnavuori is transferred from Athysanini to Scaphytopiini and its characters discussed.

Abstract The new planthopper taxon, Garumnella bella gen.n., sp.n., from Xizang, China, is described and illustrated, including external morphology of adult and eggs and structures of the male and female genitalia. The new genus is compared with Garumna Melichar and Paragarumna Muir, resulting in Paragarumna (syn.n.) being placed as a junior synonym of Garumna, with two new combinations, i.e. Garumna pseudolepida (Muir) comb.n. and Garumna melichari Baker comb.rev. New locality records for Garumna species are given. The morphology of the genitalia and egg of a copulating pair of the new genus is investigated. The female has a ventrally sclerotized posterior vagina forming a torsion groove, an unusual long membranous anterior vagina and an enlarged common oviduct. During copulation both the aedeagus and the torsion groove appear tightly interlocked, which may help to maintain the copulatory position. The aedeagus is observed in the bursa copulatrix.

The synonymy of Iberia Kirkaldy, 1907 with Stegelytra Mulsant and Rey, 1855 is reinstated; Iraqerus Ghauri, 1972 is synonymized with Stegelytra, syn. nov. and the type species of Iraqerus, S. niveosparsus (Ghauri, 1972), comb. nov. is figured and placed as a new senior synonym of S. sororcula Dlabola, 1974, syn. nov. A new stegelytrine genus, Daochia gen. nov., with reticulate forewing venation similar to that of Stegelytra, is described and placed in the subfamily Stegelytrinae. The following new species are described and illustrated, and a key given for their separation: Daochia reticulata (type species), D. longshengensis, D. bicornis (all from China), and D. fyanensis (from Vietnam).

Abstract The Oriental genus Doda Distant, its type species D. laudata Distant and D. taiwanensis Zhang & Webb sp. nov. are described and illustrated. Details of the male genitalia of the genus are provided for the first time and the genus is transferred to Stegelytrinae. The previously uncertain whereabouts of one of the two type localities for D. laudata is established.

Bakers (1915) species described in the Oriental leafhopper genus Pythamus Melichar are revised. One species, Pythamus melichari Baker 1915, is placed in a new genus, Pythochandra Wei & Webb, gen. n.. The four varieties of P. melichari described by Baker (1915, 1923) (borneensis, bilobatus, decoratus and singaporensis) are elevated to species level and placed in the new genus stat. n., comb. n.. All species are briefly described and a key is provided for their separation. Two other species, Pythamus productus Baker and P. decoratus Baker, known only from females, are retained in Pythamus pending further studies.

The leafhopper genus Scaphotettix Matsumura is redescribed, and three new species are described and illustrated: S. striatus Dai and Zhang, sp. nov. from Java (on bamboo) and China; S. bispinosus Dai and Zhang, sp. nov from China; and S. pectinatus Dai and Zhang, sp. nov. from Vietnam. Most other species of Scaphotettix were re-examined and found to belong to a new genus also described herein, Scaphomonus Viraktamath, gen. nov.. The new genus is compared with the superficially similar Melanetettix Knight and Fletcher, Scaphodhara Viraktamath and Mohan, and Scaphoideus Uhler and a new species, Scaphomonus vateriae Viraktamath, sp. nov. from India, is described and illustrated. In addition, the following new combinations are proposed (all previously placed in Scaphotettix): Scaphomonus agumbensis (Viraktamath and Mohan) comb. nov.; S. arcuatus (Viraktamath and Mohan) comb. nov.; S. freytagi (Viraktamath and Mohan) comb. nov.; S. indicus (Distant) comb. nov.; S. longistylus (Li and Wang) comb. nov.; S. malnadicus (Viraktamath and Mohan) comb. nov.; S. quadrifidus (Viraktamath and Mohan) comb. nov.; S. redundans (Distant) comb. nov.; and S. splinterus (Li and Wang) comb. nov. Three species, Scaphotettix fanjingensis Li and Wang, Scaphotettix redstripeus Li and Wang, and Scaphotettix slenderus Li and Wang, do not belong to the genus Scaphotettix and are not treated further. Keys are provided for species of both Scaphotettix and Scaphomonus.

Abstract The Oriental ‘fly-like’ leafhoppers of the Doda group are reviewed and a key is given for their separation. Two new genera and two new species are described: Pseudododa gen. n. (with type species P. orientalis sp. n.) and Aculescutellaris gen. n. (with type species A. hirtellus sp. n.). The variation within the former species is documented and illustrated, and the special mineral uptake behavior (‘mud-puddling’) of this genus and other Cicadellidae is reviewed.

Abstract Pataniolidia magnifica Wei & Webb gen.n., sp.n. from Thailand is described and illustrated, and placed in the leafhopper subfamily Stegelytrinae. Its unusual features, including ‘membracid‐like’ legs and ‘hairy’ eggs, are discussed, and new tarsal sensilla for Cicadellidae are described.
