Salvatore Brullo; M. Grillo; Anna Guglielmo

Abstract Preliminary ecological observations on Petagnia saniculifolia Guss., a rare sicilian endemism. — The Authors present the preliminary results of some observations on the anatomy and ecology of Petagnia saniculifolia Guss. and a synthetic phytosociological table in which some species of Molinio-Arrhenatheretea and Querco-Fagetea are present. The particular needs of this species and the precarious environmental conditions are pointed out.

Su una nuova associazione dei Pegano-Salsoletea osservata presso Porto Empedocle (Agrigento)

Salvatore Brullo; M. Grillo; Concetta Scalia

Abstract On a new association of the Pegano-Salsoletea observed near Porto Empedlocle (Agrigento). – The authors describe a new halo-nitrophilous association of Pegano-Salsoletea, proposed as Salsolo-Limonietum opulenti. This association occurs on the coast near Porto Empedocle (western Sicily) where it grows on marly and clayey soils. The vegetation is characterized by two endemic species (Limonium opulentum and Herniaria fontanesii ssp. empedocleana) and by some north-african species (Reaumuria vermiculata, Suaeda pruinosa var. kochii, Capparis ovata, Salsola verticillata). Besides, the authors remark the extreme interest of this association, whose conservation is very precarious at the present.
