Modulare Anlagen in der Verfahrenstechnik wie z. B. Containeranlagen bieten interessante Perspektiven im Vergleich zu etablierten Produktionsanlagen fur chemische oder pharmazeutische Prozesse. Fur das Konzept der modularen Chemieanlagen sehr gut geeignete modulare Mikro-bzw. Millireaktoren befinden sich in der Phase der Einfuhrung in den Markt der Prozesstechnologien. Entsprechend hoch ist die Bedeutung von Referenzbeispielen im Produktionsmasstab. Die Technologieplattform Mikro-/Millireaktionstechnik erfullt die Anforderungsprofile von Containeranlagen, was fur beispielhaft ausgewahltes Equipment demonstriert wird. Modular process engineering, e.g., container plants, opens interesting new perspectives for production plants of chemical and pharmaceutical processes. Modular micro and millireactors for container plants are actually in the phase of being introduced or established in the market of process technologies. Reference examples in production scale are still missing. The technology platform of micro and millireactors fulfills the demands of container plants. This is demonstrated for selected equipment.

Digitalization and increasing the flexibility of production concepts offer the possibility to react to market challenges in the field of specialty chemicals. Shorter product lifetimes, increasing product individualization, and the resulting market volatility impose new requirements on plant operators. Novel concepts such as modular production plants and developments in digitalization (Industry 4.0) are able to assist the implementation of smart factories in specialty chemicals. These essential concepts will be presented in this Minireview.
