Direct effect and evaporation mechanism in 27Al(d, p)28Al and 27Al(d, α)25Mg reactions

Abstract The Al(d, α) and (d, p) reactions are studied from the point of view of the reaction mechanism in the energy interval of ≈1.5–3 MeV. Strong intensity fluctuations are found in the excitation functions of both reactions. They can be explained and analysed on the basis of the Ericson theory for compound nucleus formation. In the (d, p) reaction the stripping mechanism is also present, giving rise to interference phenomena with the compound nuleus mechanism. From these measurements, the value of the average compound nucleus level width Γ can be deduced. For the (d, p) reaction it is also possible to estimate the magnitude of the direct effect.

Triton pick-up in the (p,α) reaction on 208Pb at 20 MeV

The 208Pb(p, alpha )205Tl reaction to four low-lying excited states of the residual nucleus was measured in order to study the reaction mechanism. The shapes of the angular distributions and the relative transition strengths can be explained by means of the triton pick-up mechanism, calculated using the semimicroscopic model of (p, alpha ) reactions.
