Planning and analysis of mechanical assembly sequences in design engineering – Part I: The Method

M. Sąsiadek

Original scientific paper The article presents theoretical notions related to assembly sequence planning in the process of elements design engineering and design for machines assembly. Basic modules of the designed method are described and shown on simple examples. The concept is based on the assumption that the method should help the engineer-constructor in specifying the best assembly sequence, taking into account the principles of design for assembly at an early stage of development of the product design. The second part of the article explains how to use the described method on the basis of an authentic industrial situation.

Project task flow optimisation and departmental flow analysis using design structure matrix and genetic algorithm

Shi Jie Chen; Lukasz M. Mazur; M. Sąsiadek

Engineering projects often require a great deal of effort during the planning and designing stages to eliminate any unnecessary rework. To achieve satisfactory results in complex projects, project managers need to consider every possible rework (or feedback connections) throughout the entire project life cycle in addition to establishing the best project task flow. Therefore a project can be completed in a shorter time and lower cost without sacrificing the quality of the outcome. The objective of this paper is to develop an optimisation process for project task coordination using design structure matrix (DSM) and genetic algorithm (GA). DSM helps identify the relationships among project tasks. GA is used to help coordinate/optimise the project task structure in terms of task cost, task time and their coupling strength. This paper also shows our developed method is able to help the managers to enhance the level of cooperation among the related departments by a departmental flow analysis. The effectiveness of this model is demonstrated by an industry example.

The Application of Augmented Reality Technology in the Production Processes

Andrzej Szajna; Janusz Szajna; Roman Stryjski; M. Sąsiadek; W. Woźniak

Augmented reality technology (AR), also known as mixed reality, enables the deployment of virtual computer images to the real-life images being seen. The article presents the concept of using Augmented Reality tools in industry. Examples are given which illustrate the production process support and the monitoring of production lines with the use of AR glasses; these provide the user with all the information necessary in front of his/her eyes while the control, the creation of notes and the reporting, is done using gestures and speech.

Highly Efficient Technology for Manufacturing of Spunlace Non-Woven Fabric in the Company Novita S.A. Poland – Description and Characteristic of the R&D Actions

M. Sąsiadek; W. Woźniak; Bartłomiej Jankowski; Urszula Błaszczyk; Roman Stryjski

Abstract This paper presents the process of designing Research and Development actions for innovative technology of highly efficient manufacturing of Spunlace non-woven fabric with the use of the designed demonstrative technological line. Both the designing of the technological line and the research are response to the market needs of the personal care products manufacturers in Poland and in the world. Clients’ expectations concerning this matter deal with increasing the production volume as well as providing better quality of the products. Due to limited (and fully exploited) production capacities and already-known technical problems in the enterprise where the research has been carried out, the authors designed a concept of innovative controlling of the technological line gradually increasing its efficiency. In order to do so, the authors proposed research based on designing the technological line mathematical model, creating its prototype and testing its operational capacities, saving the data in the database and then the use of this empirical data to the technological line parametrisation depending on the properties and destination of the manufactured products.
