An analytical method for the calculation of the number of units at the arrival instant in a discrete time G/G/1-queueing system with batch arrivals

M. Schleyer

In this paper, we analyze a G/G/1-queueing system with batch arrivals in the discrete time domain. On the basis of the waiting time distribution, we present an analytical approach for the calculation of the number of units in the queue at the arrival instant. This approach is exact within an ε-environment. In addition, the computing times are low such that a huge set of computations can be performed in a short time. We close our paper with a set of numerical experiments. Our research is motivated through various applications in the field of logistics, where it is of important interest to know the distribution of the number of units waiting to be proceeded at the moment of a new arrival.

Modeling and Performance Analysis of Material Flow Systems in Discrete Time Domain

M. Schleyer; Kai Furmans

The purpose of this contribution is to introduce a framework of model elements and associated computation methods in order to evaluate information flow and physical processes in material flow systems. We extend available discrete time queueing models by new models for batch processes which are very common in material flow systems. In this paper we provide a review of these new models. Furthermore, we present a software solution called the “Logistic Analyzer” which is well-suited for the application to practical problems. Advantages and disadvantages of the proposed solution compared to simulation are discussed.

Performance Evaluation of Material Flow Systems in Discrete Time

M. Schleyer; Kai Furmans

Logistics Journal : nicht-referierte Veroffentlichungen, Vol. 2007, Iss.
