Abstract The production of a Λ+c charmed baryon has been observed in pp collisions at the CERN ISR. A sharp peak at 2.26 GeV/c2 was found in the decay mode Λ+c → K ∗0 p in events triggered with a forward K− meson. Also the decay mode Λ+c → K− Δ++ seems to be present. The estimation of the total cross section for Λ+c production is given. However, the resulting value depends on the assumed form of the differential cross section. In addition, Λ+c production in events triggered by the presence of a direct electron is discussed.

Abstract Partial cross sections are presented for the various topologies and the various reaction channels in 16 GeV/ c π − p interactions. Their energy dependence is discussed. The distributions of events as a function of the squared four-momentum transfer are presented, as well as the transverse and c.m. longitudinal momenta distributions. The predictions of the Chan, Łoskiewicz and Allison model describe some of the gross features of these experimental results, but important disagreements are found, mostly in the low multiplicity channels.

The T2K experiment is a long baseline neutrino oscillation experiment aiming to observe the appearance ofe in a µ beam. The µ beam is produced at the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC), observed with the 295 km distant Super- Kamiokande Detector and monitored by a suite of near detectors at 280m from the proton target. The near detectors include a magnetized off-axis detector (ND280) which measures the un-oscillated neutrino flux and neutrino cross sections. The present paper describes the outermost component of ND280 which is a side muon range detector (SMRD) composed of scintillation counters with embedded wavelength shifting fibers and Multi-Pixel Photon Counter read-out. The components, performance and response of the SMRD are presented.

Abstract Multiplicity distributions of charged secondaries, σ N ( π − d ) are obtained. The effective multiplicities σ N ( π − n) and σ N ( π − p ) are extracted using the measured spectator momentum. The probability of double scattering P N is found to be independent of multiplicity.

The general scheme for the fast, pipelined first level trigger on high pt muons in the CMS detector at LHC is presented. The prototype PACT system was tested in the high momentum muon beams in the RD5 experiment during 1993/94 runs. The obtained efficiency curves are shown.

Abstract The strong angular correlations between pions have been observed in the eight-prong interactions of 8 GeV / c π+ with protons. Similar effect is observed in some of the six-prong reactions.

Results on the charged multiplicity distribution in π−d interactions at 21 GeV/c are presented. The effects due to the two-nucleon structure of the deuteron target are analysed and the contribution of double scattering processes is estimated as a function of charged multiplicity. The evidence against simple cascade models is discussed.

Abstract The inclusive spectrum of positive particles has been measured at the ISR energy √ s = 52.5 GeV as function of transverse momentum, p T for large p T values using the Split Field Magnet facility. The angular dependence of the distribution is observed and discussed in the range 9° ⩽ θ ∗ ⩽ 21° . An upper limit for the production of ∅ meson with p T ⩾ 3 GeV/ c is derived from the same sample of data.
