A Proposal of Personalized itinerary Search Methods in the Field of Transport

Amna Bouhana; Makram Soui; Mourad Abed

Abstract Personalized Information System aims to provide the user with relevant information and adapted to his/her needs, preferences and generally to his/her profile. This paper presents two methods of search for personalized information in the field of traveler information system and more precisely in the case of search of itinerary according to the users preferences. The first method consists in calculating the degree of relevance of an itinerary as compared to whole set of available itineraries. The second method consists in calculating the degree of similarity between the users profile and an itinerary.

User modeling and Web-based customazation techniques: An examination of the published literature

Sami Rojbi; Makram Soui

This paper proposes a state of the art of the user modeling and interfaces customization techniques. It presents and discusses techniques intended to be used by applications designers and also end-user based techniques. It specifies the characteristics modeled in these systems as well as the used technologies.

Replication in Fault-Tolerant Distributed CSP

Fadoua Chakchouk; Julien Vion; Sylvain Piechowiak; René Mandiau; Makram Soui; Khaled Ghedira

Real life problems can be solved by a distributed way, in particular by multi-agent approaches. However, the fault tolerance is not guarantee when an agent, for example, does not have any activity (e.g. it dies). This problem is very crucial, when the interactional model is based on a Distributed CSP. Many algorithms have been proposed in the literature, but they give wrong results if an agent dies. This paper presents an approach which is based on a replication principle: each local CSP is replicated in another agent.

A novel multi-criteria decision making approach for personalisation system

Makram Soui; Khaled Ghedira; Mourad Abed

Personalised services is a field in rapid development. The aim of such system is to provide the user with relevant information that takes into consideration the context when using the system basing on the user preference learning. Today, these systems are indispensable to those who want to retrieve appropriate information with less effort at any time and anywhere. These systems have been gaining interest in transport field to help users with their travel itineraries. For example, traveller may search for information about itineraries details, make online air-ticket bookings, online room reservations, etc. Personalisation is an effective solution for reducing complexity when searching information. This article presents a novel multi-criteria decision making approach for personalisation system which aims to satisfy multiple and contradictory criteria. Finally, we present some experimentation results in the transport field to validate the mentioned approach.

Fuzzy Logic Approach for Adaptive Systems Design

Makram Soui; Mourad Abed; Khaled Ghedira

Adaptive system is a field in rapid development. Adaptation is an effective solution for reducing complexity when searching information. This article presents how to personalize user interface (UI) using fuzzy logic. Our approach is based on the definition of relations for selection of appropriate and not appropriate of UI components. These relations are based the degree of certainty about the meaning coincidence of metadata elements and user’ preferences. The proposed approach has been validated by applying it in e-learning field.

User Profile and Multi-Criteria Decision Making: Personalization of Traveller's Information in Public Transportation

Soumaya Moussa; Makram Soui; Mourad Abed

Abstract Personalization plays an important role in information systems. It is an effective solution for reducing complexity when searching information. In this way, the user feels like the system was developed for him/her. In this context, personalization can be seen as an optimization problem. To this end, we propose a multi-criteria decision making approach to personalize systems. The proposed approach has been validated by applying it to personalize a system in intelligent transport field.

Towards a dynamic evaluation of personalized information system based on multi-agents approach: Application in intelligent transport

Makram Soui; Mourad Abed; Christophe Kolski; Khaled Ghedira

Today, and in particular in the field of public transportation, Personalized Information Systems (PIS) are increasingly developing. In fact, many efforts were made towards user modelling, design methods and tools for HCI generation. But, the evaluation of such systems is often neglected. To fill up this lack, it is necessary to envisage new evaluation methods taking into account the personalization quality. This method is based on multi-agents approach. This evaluation approach has been validated by applying them to evaluate PIS in transport field.

Fault Tolerance in DisCSPs: Several Failures Case

Fadoua Chakchouk; Sylvain Piechowiak; René Mandiau; Julien Vion; Makram Soui; Khaled Ghedira

To solve a distributed problem in presence of a failed entity, we have to find a way to accomplish the failed entity tasks. In this paper, we present an approach which guarantees the resolution of DisCSPs in presence of failed agents. This approach is based on local CSPs replication principle: each failed agent local CSP is replicated in another agent which will support it. Obtained results confirm that our approach can solve a DisCSP in presence of failed agents by giving a solution when it exists.

Evaluating User Interface Adaptation using the Context of Use

Makram Soui; Khaled Ghedira; Mourad Abed

The aim of adaptive user interface is to provide different layouts and relevant information according to the current context-of-use users, platforms and environments. Today, these systems are indispensable to those who want to retrieve appropriate information with less effort at anytime and anywhere. In this paper, the authors present an approach to automatically evaluate UI adaptation at runtime. The idea consists on foreseeing the evaluation from the early stages of application development by integrating a tracing system which represents the first phase of a user-centred approach for the design and the evaluation of adaptive system AS called MetTra evaluation METhod based on a TRAcing system. In fact, the authors will explain in depth the stages of tracing mechanism integration in AS design, with illustrations concerning transport applications. Finally, they will propose some future works.

A new personalization approach by case-based reasoning and fuzzy logic

Wafa Mahdi; Makram Soui; Mourad Abed

Nowadays, facing the diversity of users profiles, the emergence of new technologies (mobile phones, PDA...) and the variety of environments (office, home...), searching for relevant information becomes a very difficult process. In this context, personalization can be an appropriate solution to overcome this issue. It aims to provide the user with relevant information corresponding to his/her preferences. Our contribution is a new personalization approach based on both case-based reasoning and fuzzy logic. The aim is to recommend a personalized itinerary taking in consideration the context of use. Finally, we present some experimentation results in the transport field to validate the mentioned approach.
