We learned that the present challenges are the stabilization of the wrists, representation of gravity, and the sensation of diminishing solder. The issue of wrist stabilization is difficult to improve because, with control from the haptic device, there exists an area for which stabilization is not possible. On the other hand, for the representation of gravity and sensation of diminishing solder, the representation can be changed in the software program and further experimental investigation is needed in the future.

In this study, we examined methods of sensing roughness with haptic displays. Representation of paper quality applies to dictionaries, notebooks and other everyday items, not just calligraphy and washi paper. In contrast, the discrimination thresholds were Z0.75 = 0.0685 for dynamic friction and Z0.75 = 0.0466 for static friction. Considering the limitations placed on normal force, this means change in force can only be sensed up to 0.685 (N) and 0.466 (N), respectively.

In this paper, wave-shaping is produced by a circuit using a comparator, and the relation between the slice level of the speech waveform and the articulation when varying the slice level after some steps is described. The wave-shaped speech wave described above is called a multi-level sliced speech signal (a 3-level sliced or 5-level sliced speech signal).

The Internet has become one of the most important tools. A huge amount of data is communicated in the Internet all over the world. The management of data traffic is very important under such a situation, because the computer transmits lots of unnecessary data though it is infected by a computer virus and the network is not well managed. A monitor of data traffic, therefore, should be required for recognizing such a situation. As a result of recent advances in three-dimensional (3D) video technology and stereo sound systems, virtual reality (VR) has become a familiar part of people’s lives.

The advantages of a system that uses virtual reality (VR) are that the software program can be changed to permit various types of technical training to be performed with a single device, and that the work environment can also be changed easily. Another advantage is that a network can be used to allow multiple users to train at different remote locations. An example of this phenomenon is the lag between video and sound in a network teleconference system. In an environment where latency exists, such a system cannot be said to be suitable as a technical training system, and this is a problem when using a VR system.

This paper describes our project to construct wireless Comput-er-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) classroom under non-wired settings in Japan. In 1990s, so-called CALL system began to be introduced into Japanese educational settings. The system was mainly wired desktop-based system. After two decades, administrators of the system have to decide what to do with the system; replace or abolish. It is needless to say that it costs extremely a lot for replacement. In the current paper, a new possibility is suggested: change into the wireless CALL classroom, where tablet computers will be used under wireless circumstances. We would like to describe out system model and point out some issues on login.

This paper illustrates the effectiveness of a proactive data transfer scheme for adaptive display control in a distributed haptic system with virtual reality, which is an application using haptic, audio and visual media. Presentation experiments of an audio-visual stimulus were carried out using a computer graphics of a moving ball and its collision sound. The results obtained show that the sound image at the beginning of an audio-visual presentation is more strongly captured with the visual image than that at the ending, and that the sound image is perceived separately from the visual image even at the timing of the presentation positions of the audio and visual stimuli coincide with each other when the sound source is moving in the collision of the visual image.

This paper reports on our attempt to construct a new type of feedback system on the basis of text mining method. The novelty of our attempt is to utilize text mining technology to produce instant feedback in the foreign language presentation course. Our system is designed to collect all the open-ended text data and derive high-quality information on their feedback from the collected text data. The system enables the students to reflect themselves on their own presentation in a deeper sense. The system is incorporated into the learning management system, Moodle, so that every learner can get access to the system under network environment. Starting with the review of another popular instant feedback using clicker, this paper describes how the system was constructed and carried out.

Recently, virtual reality (VR) technology has developed quickly, together with research conducted on various elemental and related technologies and research in various fields of its application. We experimented about the delay. The haptic media is very sensitive to the network delay and its jitter and packet loss. The AHP is one of methods to evaluate physical phenomena as correctness of the human sensation. In consequence of its application to the present experiment, it was made clear that the haptic media could be estimated from the delay times. An experiment was conducted using the AHP technique into the effect of feedback force delay on users by using the normal feedback force of a spring as an experimental model. The experiments in this study showed that there is a time delay threshold of 4 ms or more. In addition, when a thorough experiment was conducted in this range, it was found that humans could perceive a variation (difference threshold) in the delay of feedback force for a virtual spring that is between 4 ms and 5 ms.

Antivirus software technology is a security technology for analysis of networks and detection of information leakage and virus software. Computers are designed to process the detected viruses in the background. Here we report our design, construction, and investigation of a prototype system to sense virus-induced traffic anomalies in a network and react haptically, as a form of haptic visualization security technology that can provide physical experience of anomalies generated when viruses occur, in training beginners, as well as other applications.
