Darko Kiš; Sonja Marić; Tomislav Juric; Manda Antunović; Vlado Guberac

A constant need for energy is necessary and permanent as far as our modern society is concerned. Today we have a large number of projects and studies of different alternative energy resources. Among them the most interesting are biofuels. Due to climatic conditions Europe has decided in favour of the oil production for biodiesel fuel with oil seed rape as the most appropriate culture due to the way of its cultivation as well as the way of fuel production. The aim of these researches was to investigate the economic and other characteristics of the “ 00” European oil seed rape cultivars in the Croatian agroenvironmental conditions and based on the results to introduce the most perspective ones into production.

Nine maize lines, commonly used as female parents of maize hybrid (B1=♀2-48 ; B2=♀1767/99 ; B3=♀ 87- 24 ; B4=♀135-88, B5=♀84-28 ; B6=♀84-44 ; B7=♀438-95 ; B8=♀30-8 ; B9=♀B-73) were grown under field conditions on Podgorac acid soil in Osijek- Baranya County for two growing seasons (2006 and 2007). The ear-leaves at flowering and grain at maturity were taken from each basic plot (14 m2 ) for chemical analysis with inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP- OES). Average concentrations (2-year means: g kg- 1 in dry matter) were as follows: 3.21 and 3.00 (P), 20.8 and 3.45 (K), 6.60 and 0.05 (Ca), 2.44 and 1.04 (Mg) for leaves and grain, respectively. Differences among genotypes were from 2.69 to 3.95 and from 2.70 to 3.57 (P), from 18.0 to 23.3 and from 3.03 to 3.71 (K), from 5.45 to 8.02 and from 0.04 to 0.07 (Ca), from 1.35 to 3.09 and from 0.84 to 1.36 (Mg), for leaves and grain, respectively. Specifies of leaf composition of individual genotypes were as follows: B1 (the highest Ca and Mg), B2 (the highest P), B4 (the lowest Ca, Mg and P), B6 (the highest K) and B7 (the lowest K). Grain composition was mainly in accordance with specifies of leaf composition. Very high correlation in maize mineral composition under identical environmental conditions for nine genotypes between two years (0.97***, 0.97*** and 0.91*** for K, Ca and Mg, respectively) are indication of high hereditary effects, while P was more under environmental impact (r = 0.43). Significant correlations were found between grain-P and grain-K (0.55*), grain- Ca (0.49*) and grain-Mg (0.86***), grain-Ca and grain-Mg (0.54*). However, regarding mineral composition of leaves, only leaf-Ca and leaf-P had significant correlation (-0.46*).

The stationary field experiment with the application of granulated dolomite (MgCO3 x CaCO3) enriched with nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium (Fertdolomite: 24.0 % CaO + 16.0 % MgO + 3.0 % N + 2.5 % P2O5 + 3.0 % K2O) in rates 0, 5, 10, 20, 30 and 40 t ha -1 on standard fertilization was started on 13th November 2007 on the acid soil (pH in 1n KCl: 3.90). The trial was conducted by randomized block design in four replicates (basic plot 40 m2). Standard fertilization of trial was applied in the next years for crops in rotation. In this study the response of soybean (2010) and winter barley (2012/2013) was shown. The average grain yield of soybean was 4830 kg ha-1 with variation among the treatments ranging from 4341 to 5361 kg ha-1. At the rates 10 t ha-1 and 20 t ha-1 soybean yields were significant increased for 8% and 16%, respectively and additionally by 6% at the highest rate of fertolomite. Fertdolomite had a moderate positive effect on protein contents in grain, while oil content was independent on the treatments. The average grain yield of barley was quite low (3630 kg ha-1), mainly due to low ears density (average 493 per m2) which was affected by oversupplies of precipitation in winter period under less permeable soil conditions. Extreme variations of precipitation regime are in connection with climatic change. Due to the application of 10 and 20 t ha-1 of Fertdolomite, yields of barley were significantly increased by 20% and 34%, respectively. However, the rates of 40 t ha-1 showed a non-significant difference of the barley yield as compared to the control level. The ear densities were significantly increased by application ≥ 10 t ha-1 Fertdolomite rates. Improvement of soil status by liming, adequate fertilization and similar managements contribute to the alleviation of detrimental effects of soil limitations and recent climate change on field crop yields.
