Czochralski growth by the double container technique

Abstract A new technique for pulling single crystals from directly heated melts is described. It is called the double container technique (DC technique). The essential characteristics of this technique are an adjustable but constant melt height, the availability of a large melt reservoir with a limited effective melt volume in the environment of the growing crystal and considerably reduced use of noble metal. Single crystals of sodium chloride as a test material and neodymium gallium garnets of good quality have been grown.
