Electrochemical oxidation of thiourea studied by use of in situ FTIR spectroscopy

Abstract The electrochemical oxidation of thiourea on a Pt electrode was studied at different potentials by use of voltammetry and in situ FTIR spectroscopy. It was found that during the first step the thiourea could be oxidized to the c,c′-dithiodiformamidinium ion in 1 M NaCl solution. It could be further oxidized at higher potentials to produce cyanamide, HSO − 4 and SO 2− 4 ions through an electrocatalytic oxidation process of chemisorbed sulphur taken on the surface of the platinum electrode.

Electrochemical Behavior and Reduction Mechanism of High Valence Silver Oxide in Alkaline Solution

The electrochemical properties of high-valence silver oxide (Ag 3 O 4 ) in alkaline solution were investigated and the reduction mechanism was proposed. It was discovered that the reduction process of Ag 3 O 4 was complicated, and could be reduced through the series of Ag 3 O 4 →AgO→Ag 2 O→Ag at slow rate; conversely, it could be directly reduced to Ag 2 O at rapid rate. In addition, this material presents not only high capacity but also prominent electrochemical performance at very high discharge rate.
