Cervical teratomas are not reported quite frequently in medical literature, especially from Indian subcontinent. Prenatal diagnosis of this condition is even rarer, making the management protocols difficult. In absence of prompt intervention in the form of airway decompression, morbidity and mortality is very high. Presented here is the case of antenatal diagnosed cervical mass, which was managed successfully in immediate post-natal period with uneventful survival and normalized tumor marker levels.

Neonatal Intrathoracic Stomach without Gastric Volvulus

Sriharsha Bokka; Manoj Kumar Mohanty

Intrathoracic stomach is a rare and serious congenital abnormality. The anomaly may be complicated by gastric volvulus and can lead to ischemic gastric infarction in the neonate. If diagnosed antenatally, neonatal management can be planned in advance so as to reduce morbidity. This anomaly must be differentiated from the more common congenital diaphragmatic hernia, as associated pulmonary hypoplasia is common in the latter and rare with gastric herniation. We report a case of intrathoracic stomach in a neonate without volvulus, fortunately a rare entity which was managed operatively, and the child has been under regular follow-up.

Intussusception secondary to a noncommunicating duplication cyst on the antimesenteric border of the ileum: A case report with a review of the literature

Sriharsha Bokka; Shuddhasattwa Bhattacharjee; Ravindranath M; Manoj Kumar Mohanty

Gastrointestinal duplication cysts are uncommon congenital malformations that could present diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. They may be either cystic or tubular, and most of them are located in the mesentery of the intestine. Duplication cysts can be a diagnostic dilemma to the surgeon because of their varied presentations. A high index of suspicion is necessary to facilitate the diagnosis and prompt operative intervention after adequate resuscitation may be necessary in a setting where diagnostic tests are either not available or affordable. We report a case of a noncommunicating ileal duplication cyst in an infant presenting with intussusception, which was successfully managed by surgery.

Esophageal lung: A rare type of communicating bronchopulmonary foregut malformation, case report with review of literature.

Sriharsha Bokka; Ashwin Ashok Jaiswal; Bikram K Behera; Manoj Kumar Mohanty; Manish K Khare; Amrish Kumar Garg

A 2-year-old female child was referred from a private hospital as a case of recurrent lower respiratory tract infections (LRTI). The chest X ray revealed a hypoplastic right lung and further workup led to the diagnosis of esophageal lung - a rare type of communicating bronchopulmonary foregut malformation. A right posterolateral thoracotomy was done, anamolous bronchial communication with esophagus disrupted, esophageal fistula repaired and the lung resected. Postoperatively, diet was allowed from day 7. The patient tolerated the diet well. Repeat dye study revealed no leak and subsequently the patient was discharged on day 10.

An uncommon presentation of Burkitt's lymphoma as a primary gastrointestinal tumor causing intussusception: A case report with review of literature

Sri Harsha Bokka; Fayazuddin Mohammed; Srikant Sharma; Manoj Kumar Mohanty

Burkitts′s lymphoma is the commonest subtype of B-cell non-Hodgkins lymphoma in childhood. Though gastrointestinal tract is the commonest extra nodal site, intussusception secondary to Burkitt′s lymphoma is an uncommon presentation. We report a case of an 8-year-old female child who presented with acute abdomen. A tumor arising from ileocaecal valve was the lead point causing intussusception that was reduced, and a limited right hemi colectomy was performed. A final diagnosis of Burkitt′s lymphoma was made based on immunohistochemistry.
