This article is aimed to investigate the shear resistance of the beams reinforced with fiber-reinforced polymer stirrups. Together with theoretical analysis of the existing shear resistance provisions in design codes and literature, an experimental research was performed. During the experimental investigation, four doubly reinforced rectangular concrete beams were designed, produced, and tested to failure. A new analytical calculation method (including, but not limited to statistical validation) to investigate the shear response of fiber-reinforced polymer–reinforced concrete beams has been developed. A database with 102 beams was compiled, in order to evaluate the guideline provisions and proposed analytical calculation method. The experimental results were compared with theoretical results obtained by the proposed analytical calculation method. Correlation between analytical and experimental results is more accurate than using the existing provisions in design codes and literature for fiber-reinforced polymer–reinforced concrete beams.

Santrauka Straipsnyje nagrinėjamos kompozitinės armatūros inkaravimo betone problemos. Pateikiamos projektavimo normų (ACI, STR, JSCE) ir rekomendacijų (fib MC 2010) metodikos armatūros inkaravimo ilgiui nustatyti. Atlikta eksperimentinių rezultatų ir teorinių skaiciavimų lyginamoji analizė. Aptarti eksperimentiniai armatūros ir betono sukibties stiprio nustatymo būdai, betono ir armatūros sukibimą veikiantys veiksniai. Remiantis sio darbo rezultatais nustatyta, kaip armatūros inkaravimo ilgis priklauso nuo armatūros ir betono mechaninių savybių, geometrinių parametrų. Pateikiamos sių veiksnių ir kompozitinės armatūros inkaravimo ilgio priklausomybės.

Abstract The current economic pressures on utilities to extend a service life of structural concrete mean that concrete structures may have to perform safety functions for a time period significantly greater than their initial design life. However, the structural design and construction requirements for concrete structures with non-metallic reinforcement are very unique and not complete. This paper aims to provide experimental investigations of concrete beams reinforced with GFRP (glass fibre reinforced polymers) based on flexural strength. Both reinforced and prestressed concrete beams have been tested. Together with the strength characteristics, the effect of pre-stress on deflection and cracking distribution has been mainly governed by the stress–strain laws of reinforced concrete. The work is resulted in design code equations for the prediction of the ultimate flexural strength. The influence of the effect of prestressing on the deflection and cracking was analysed.
