Leaf anatomy of Xylopia is still poorly explored. The species Xylopia brasiliensis Sprengel, commonly known as pindaiba occurs in primary forest and in modified vegetation in a wide range of environmental conditions. The present study describes some leaf anatomical characteristics of this species and quantitatively evaluates them in function of environmental, seasonal and plant height differences. This species has anatomical plasticity.

Douglas Antônio de Carvalho; Ary Teixeira de Oliveira-Filho; Enivanis de Abreu Vilela; Manuel Losada Gavilanes

A floristic survey was carried out in a riparian forest of the Rio Grande in Bom Sucesso, Minas Gerais, Brazil, considering the species of trees and shrubs with diameter at the base of the stem >= 5 cm. The purpose was to produce a list of indigenous species for potential use in environmental rehabilitation programs that have bee carried out on the margins of rivers and dams of this region. A list is provided with 245 species of 65 botanic families. Floristic comparisons are made with florests surveyed in the State of Sao Paulo.

Flórula ruderal da cidade de Lavras, MG

Manuel Losada Gavilanes; Cláudio Ney D'Angieri Filho

A survey and identification of ruderal plants occuring in Lavras City, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, was carried out. One hundred and seventy five species, representing 122 genera belonging to 41 families were indentified. Families Compositae, Leguminosae, Gramineae, Malvaceae, Convolvulaceae, Cyperaceae, Euphorbiaceae, and Amaranthaceae presented the greatest numbers of species among all families. All plant materials were collected in garden areas, along roadsides and streets, walls and fences, and wastelands.

A floristic survey was carried out in an 9.450m2 fragment of riparian forest on the margin of the hydroelectric reservoir of Camargos, Itutinga, state of Minas Gerais, SE Brazil. All individuals with minimum diameter at the base of stem 5cm were surveyed in the sampled area forest. A list is provided with 253 species of trees and shrubs belonging to 66 botanic families. Floristic similarity indices were calculated in comparisons with other floristic surveys of forest in the states of Sao Paulo and Minas Gerais.

Mitzi Brandão; Julio Pedro Laca-Buendia; Manuel Losada Gavilanes

Julio Pedro Laca-Buendia; Mitzi Brandão; Manuel Losada Gavilanes

The influence of thidiazuron on calius formation and maintenance of Corola verbenacea was evaluated. Stem segments with 3 to 4cm length were excisedfrom greenhouse plants and surface sterilized with 30% commercial sodium hypochiorite for 10 minutes. Explants were inoculated with 5mm on Murashige and Skoog (MVRASHIGE & SKOOG, 1962) - MSsolid medium (0.6%) suppiemented with 0.22, 0.68, 2.04 and 6.13mM TDZ. Calius induction was observed 10 to 15 days after incubation. The media contaming, 2.04 and 6.13uM TDZ induced 75% expiam with calius. The calius when transferred to fresh culture medium exhibited active growth. The treatments containing lower concentration induced 50% expiam with caltus that when transferred to fresh culture medium, showed no development.

MICROMORFOMETRIA FOLIAR DE PALICOUREA RIGIDA KUNTH. (RUBIACEAE) EM AMBIENTE DE CERRADO E CAMPO RUPESTRE

Manuel Losada Gavilanes; Evaristo Mauro de Castro; Marinês Ferreira Pires; Fabricio José Pereira; Márcio Paulo Pereira

The objective of this work was to evaluate qualitative and quantitative leaf anatomical traits of Palicourea rigida Kunth. (Rubiaceae) species occurring in the Brazilian Cerrado and Campo Rupestre ecosystems. Anatomical analysis was performed in fresh or fixed leaves processed with usual plant microtechnique. Leaves showed uniseriate epidermis in petiole and leaf blade which contains uniseriate nonglandular tricomes (tector type) occurring only over the vascular bundles. Likewise, paracytic stomata were found only in abaxial side of the leaf surface. The mesophyll contains uniseriate palisade parenchyma and multiseriate spongy parenchyma (nine layers) which showed cells with different morphology and size. Crystal idoblasts of different types were observed in both the petiole and leaf blade. Collateral vascular bundles were found both in the petiole and leaf blade. Leaf venation type was pinnate, campylodromous or brochydodromous. The micromorphometric analysis showed significant differences from plants of different environments for all leaf characteristics and Cerrado plants showed higher means for all evaluated traits. Therefore, the influence of environments may had modulated morphological responses in P. rigida, since no difference was found in the type or distribution of leaf tissues in Cerrado or Campo Rupestre.
