Using parallel processing technique and commodity hardware, Beowulf supercomputers can be built at a much lower cost. Research organizations and educational institutions are using this technique to build their own high performance clusters. In this paper we discuss the architecture and design of Beowulf supercomputer and our own experience of building BURRAQ cluster.

Solid materials and their properties are of great technological interest. In depth understanding of such materials have need of a quantum mechanical description of the related solids. Electronic structure calculations of solids can be performed in a variety of ways using classical to quantum mechanical approaches. For a system, which shows strange phenomena, one often relies on first principle calculations. In this paper, we will give a brief description of the plane wave basis that underlies in many condensed matter Density Functional Theory methods. We will give brief introduction of these methods especially Augmented Plane Wave method, its linearization along with an alternate approach. Lastly, we will discuss the advantages of modern computer code WIEN2k of line aroused augmented plane wave method.

Physics of exotic hadrons is in the limelight these days. The models for these baryons are discussed as well as their production and decay processes and methods of their identification. The results of recent experiments in this field are presented, in which some unusual states are observed. These states are candidates for exotic hadrons.

As we have entered in twenty 1st century, a century of information technology, the need of supercomputing is expanding in many fields of science and technology. With the availability of low cost commodity hardware, free software, Beowulf style supercomputers have solved the problem of scientific community. The supercomputer helps in solving complex problems, store, process, and manage huge amount of scientific data available all over the globe. In this paper we have tried to discuss the functioning of Beowulf style supercomputer, its scope and future trends.
