Crenças no autocuidado em diabetes: implicações para a prática

El objetivo del estudio fue comprender las creencias que impregnan las actitudes de autocuidado de los pacientes diabeticos. Nueve pacientes diabeticos participaron de la investigacion. La entrevista semiestructurada se utilizo como instrumento para la recoleccion de los datos, y la tecnica de analisis de contenido, modalidad tematica, para su tratamiento. A traves del analisis se encontraron tres temas de significacion - La influencia de las creencias en el concepto de diabetes; Las creencias, el autocuidado y las practicas de cuidado; La creencia en el papel de la familia, de los medios y de los profesionales de salud en el autocuidado. Se observo que los pacientes diabeticos utilizan la alimentacion saludable como forma de autocuidado; y los medios, la familia y los profesionales de salud, como factores motivadores del mismo. Por lo tanto, para que se promueva la asistencia a los diabeticos, se deben considerar sus creencias en la practica de autocuidado.

Análise de gênero para o adoecer de câncer

The objective of this study was to understand the process of the sicked of cancer, in men and women, the perspective of the gender. To four women and three men, carriers of cancer of cólon and rectum who were in ambulatorial treatment, in an Institution of Private Health, the city of Fortaleza-CE, in the month of July of 2008 had participated as informing. The information had been collected by half-structuralized interview being organized in categories in agreement analysis of studious content and analyzed consonant of the thematic one of gender. The categories that had emerged had been: The sicked of cancer: spallings and limitations in the life; a life in transformation: of the threats to the overcomings. The depositions all elucidate the process of sicked of cancer and the perception of gender on this event beyond disclosing that the stereotype created by the society concerning sort also are expressed the behavior presented for the people who sicked of cancer.O objetivo deste estudo foi compreender o processo do adoecimento de câncer, em homens e mulheres, na perspectiva do genero. Participaram como informantes quatro mulheres e tres homens, portadores de câncer de colon e reto que estavam em tratamento ambulatorial, numa Instituicao de Saude Privada, no municipio de Fortaleza-CE, no mes de julho de 2008. As informacoes foram coletadas por entrevista semi-estruturada sendo organizadas em categorias conforme analise de conteudo e analisadas consoante estudiosos da tematica de genero. As categorias que emergiram foram: O adoecimento de câncer: fragmentacoes e limitacoes na vida; uma vida em transformacao: das ameacas as superacoes. Relação entre processo de trabalho e saúde de caminhoneiros

Objective: To analyze the relationship between the work process and the health of truckers in the state of Ceara. Methods: Epidemiological cross-sectional study conducted with 165 truck drivers attending the XX Truckers Festival of the municipality of Tabuleiro do Norte-CE. Data were collected using a questionnaire with close-ended questions about issues related to the work process, health and lifestyle. Data were organized in tables and analyzed with the aid of EPI- INFO software. Results: It was verified that 100% (n=165) of the professionals were males, 39.3% (n=65) were aged 30-39 years, 40% (n=66) had incomplete primary education, 35.8% (n=59) worked from 12 to 16 hours per day. The most common health problems were insomnia, which affected 78.1% (n= 129) of the drivers and presented a significant association with the use of psychoactive substances (p=0.002); and lower back pain, which affected 52.7% (n=87) of the truckers. Conclusion: There is a great exposure to risk factors imposed by this profession, which can significantly affect the work performance and the quality of health of truck drivers. Therefore, changes in their lifestyle are needed and the authorities should draw attention to these professionals. doi: 10.5020/18061230.2014.p462

Environmental variables and errors in the preparation and administration of medicines

OBJECTIVE to identify the relationship between environmental factors and errors in the preparation and administration of antibacterial. METHOD an observational, cross-sectional study conducted between August and December, 2014 in two clinical units. The sample consisted of 265 doses of medication, observed in different shifts that through a form had the environmental conditions of noise, illumination, humidity, temperature and physical space measured in the preparation and administration stages. RESULTS the physical dimension for the preparation was inadequate in one unit (3.8m2), and the items illumination, temperature and noise were extremely oscillating in the three shifts and in the two clinics, with averages generally higher than the recommended for the hospital environment, however, variations in illumination and noise were not statistically significant to cause dose errors or erroneous medicine choice (p> 0.05). CONCLUSION the environmental variables analyzed may favor medication errors in both the preparation and administration stages.

Neoplasias del sistema reproductor: análisis del entendimiento y enfrentamiento en hombres y mujeres

Objective: To analyze the understanding and coping strategies adopted by men and women against the disease of the reproductive system neoplasms. Methodology: A descriptive qualitative study involving 20 subjects hospitalized for chemotherapy. Information was collected through semi-structured interviews, which were organized and analyzed by the collective subject discourse analysis technique. Were followed by the ethics opinion 179/08. Results: by the speeches of the interviewees revealed three synthetic discourses, anchored on the following core ideas: masculinity and cancer; femininity and cancer; and adapt and overcome. To note that women demonstrated greater ability to adapt and overcome facing the diagnosis, while men perceive the disease as loss of virility and the essence of the man. Final thoughts: are divergent repercussions caused by cancers of the reproductive system in men and women, which causes different coping strategies and understanding of the disease.

Abordagem clínica de enfermagem na prevenção do pé diabético

Objective: To identify the procedures adopted during nursing consultation to the person with diabetes mellitus, in the prevention of diabetic foot. Methods: Descriptive, observational and quantitative study, carried out in an institution of secondary care on diabetes and hypertension of the Ceara State, between August and September 2011. Data was collected through a form during the nursing consultation, being organized in pictures with descriptive analysis. Results: The clinical management of diabetic foot is performed by nurses with little emphasis, omitting relevant questions about the patient’s habits, such as walking barefoot, nails cutting, attention to calluses and feet moisturizing. Furthermore, some guidance is neglected, as to inform about the best time to buy the shoe, type of socks to be used and the fact they cannot walk barefoot. Conclusion: The procedures adopted during consultation by the nurses in this study were not the ideal ones, as the anamnesis and clinical examination of feet occurred incompletely, missing important steps for the prevention of diabetic foot or the potential complications associated to it. doi:http://dx.doi.org/10.5020/18061230.2013.p498
