GraPhys: Understanding Health Care Insurance Data through Graph Analytics.

Luis Gregorio Moyano; Ana Paula Appel; Vagner Figueredo de Santana; Márcia Ito; Thiago Donizetti dos Santos

Healthcare insurance data represent a rich source of information and has the potential to contribute significantly in guiding business decision making. In this work we present GraPhys, a Graph Analysis platform designed for exploration, visualization and analysis of healthcare insurance data and its corresponding metadata. By taking advantage of relationships contained in healthcare claims data, we are able to apply Graph Analytics methods and algorithms in order to devise useful business metrics to guide data analysis and exploration. Our tool focuses in better understanding physicians, patients and their practices. We illustrate our approach by demonstrating two use cases where we show how graph analytics metrics, combined with other data, may lead to useful insights not directly available to traditional Business Analytics.

Special Issue JOMS --- Journal of Medical Systems, 2016 on Agent-Empowered HealthCare Systems

Pedro Henriques Abreu; Daniel Castro Silva; Michael Schumacher; Luís Paulo Reis; Brígida Mónica Faria; Márcia Ito

The Agent-Empowered HealthCare Systems Special Issue includes a selection of papers that provide discussion on the most recent and innovative work regarding the study and application of agent-based technology to healthcare. Healthcare facilities faces now diverse and complex everyday challenges, ranging from equipment and drug inventory management to patient clinical record and follow-up management, or even patient monitoring in either a hospital or home environment, and patient transportation scheduling. At the same time, the progressive maturity of agent technology methodologies and tools has led to the development of applications in many complex real-world domains. Covering a wide spectrum of research areas, this special issue intends to bring together communities from Computer Science and Agent-Based Systems and Clinicians working on Healthcare, Medicine and Biomedicine, providing a presentation and discussion forum for researchers in the area, highlighting innovative approaches, multidisciplinary works, and defining future research directions. The special issue accepted submission of paper concerning the use of agents encompassed in the healthcare context e.g. ranging from equipment and drug inventory management to patient clinical record and follow-up management, or even patient monitoring in either a hospital or home environment, and patient transportation scheduling. Topics of interest included: Medical Data Management, Information Retrieval and Knowledge Management, Agent-based Information Provider Services, Remote Care, and Telemedicine, Mobile

Márcia Ito; Leandro Ramos da Silva; Eduardo Rodrigues de Camargo; Tarcio Roberto Carvalho de Lima

In this paper, we present an application design that enables the exchange of information between two databases located in different environments, seeking interoperability between the systems of health care using these bases. The application is based on agent technology using the JADE platform. The applications agents can establish a communication, request data, send and receive records database for XML, read this code and make updates to the database.
