O significado da maternidade deve ser aprofundado com os pais. O objetivo deste estudo foi conhecer os significados da maternidade frente as necessidades das puerperas no alojamento conjunto em um hospital de Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. Esta pesquisa seguiu o paradigma qualitativo de carater exploratorio descritivo. A coleta de dados foi composta por uma amostra de 15 mulheres entre 24 e 48 horas de puerperio. Pela analise de conteudo, destacaram-se tres categorias: significado de ser mae, dificuldades do puerperio imediato e necessidades no puerperio imediato. Nos resultados, as puerperas definem a maternidade como a realizacao de um sonho aliada a responsabilidade e ao compromisso com o novo ser que se apresenta fragil e dependente de seus cuidados. Concluise que a maternidade para estas puerperas e um momento unico, com sentimentos de inseguranca para assumir os cuidados do recem nascido e autocuidado.

Objective: report the experience of breastfeeding at the newborn’s first time of life in a private hospital in Porto Alegre, RS, addressing its advantages and the difficulties into the adoption of this approach. Methodology: It reports the nurses’ experience at delivery care at the obstetrical center. Results: The experience made it possible to give the thematic of early breastfeeding an insight, pointing out this approach at the delivery room. It was shown that this measure is not effectively implemented, being postponed to the post-delivery room. There is prevalence of caesareans in hospitals hindering the promotion of the breastfeeding practice at delivery and birth. Another thing that limits that practice is the assistance attached to the standards, institutional rules, and the culture of biomedical competence. Conclusion: Highlight that hospitals need to develop policies to promote and protect the breastfeeding practice

Aim: this study aims at investigating the perceptions of a private hospital nursing staff on the Kangaroo Care practices applied to newborns hospitalized in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Method: qualitative, exploratory and descriptive study, conducted at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit a private hospital in Porto Alegre/RS. Fifteen professionals from the nursing team participated in the study and semi-structured interview was used. Results: four thematic categories emerged: the perception of the nursing team and the practice of Kangaroo Care; the difficulties found in the implementation of these practice; the benefits found after implementing the method; the contributions of neonatal nursing staff for the implementation of the method. Conclusion: the propose to implement Kangaroo Care method requires a change of paradigms on the humanized care of the premature and the underweight newborn.

Objective: To know the profile of newborn diagnosed with gastroschisis and treated at a public hospital at Porto Alegre, southern Brazil. Method: A cross-sectional, descriptive, quantitative study was conducted to retrospectively analyze 54 medical records of neonates diagnosed with gastroschisis treated at the study hospital between January 2006 and January 2016. The analysis included all medical records of infants diagnosed with gastroschisis and born in the institution studied, as well as those who were transferred from other health institutions in the period examined. Medical records were searched through electronic consultation to the institutions Epidemiology Service, using the International Code of Diseases (ICD) 10 Q 793). Later, the files were accessed through the Medical Records and Statistics Service. Information was collected using a form containing the study variables. The data analysis was performed using SPSS software, version 21.0. The study complied with the ethical aspects of human research legislation. Results: The prevalence of gastroschisis was 0.11%, totaling 54 cases identified. Mean maternal age was 20.2 years; sex distribution was equal among newborns with the malformation; and 72.5% of cases had primary abdominal closure. Conclusion: The results for related causes and treatment, such as maternal age, drug use, and type of abdominal closure, were similar to findings from other studies on gastroschisis. Aim: to know the perception of nurses toward to the assistance to women in induced abortion process. Method: descriptive, qualitative study with 12 nursing professionals from the obstetric center of a public hospital in Southern of Brazil. The data, originated from semi-structured interviews, were analyzed based in thematic analysis. The study was approved by the Ethics Committee. Results: two categories emerged: the role of nursing in care for women in induced abortion process; and not being able to care for women in induced abortion process. Conclusion: the interviewed professionals did not feel qualified to assist and realized that they cared mechanically. We need to equip professionals through training to develop specific skills and knowledge about the humane treatment of women in this condition
