The paper presents the theoretical and technological aspects of forming magnesium alloy parts for aircraft and automotive applications. The main applications of magnesium alloys in the aircraft and automotive industries are discussed. In addition, the forging technology for magnesium alloys is generally described, with a particular emphasis on wrought alloys. A brief outline of the state of the art in the forging of magnesium alloys is given based on a survey of the specialist literature and the results of previous research by the authors.

Machining process nowadays could not be conducted without its inseparable element: cutting edge and frequently numerically controlled milling machines. Milling and lathe machining centres comprise standard equipment in many companies of the machinery industry, e.g. automotive or aircraft. It is for that reason that tertiary education should account for this rising demand. This entails the introduction into the curricula the forms which enable visualisation of machining, milling process and virtual production as well as virtual machining centres simulation. Siemens Virtual Machine (Virtual Workshop) sets an example of such software, whose high functionality offers a range of learning experience, such as: learning the design of machine tools, their configuration, basic operation functions as well as basics of CNC.

The paper presents the results of a SEM/EDS and XPS study of changing of chemical and phase composition of the friction surfaces Fe-Mn-C-B-Si-Ni-Cr hardfacing coatings depend on depth. The tribological examination was conducted in a pin-on disc system with unitary pressure of 10 MPa under dry friction conditions. A scanning electron microscope SEM/EDS as well as X-Ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were used to examine the structures on the friction surface and depend on depth 5, 10, 15, 20, 50, 100, 200, 6000 nm. The presence of compounds such as oxides (B2O3, SiO2, Cr2O3), carbides (Fe3C, Cr7C3), borides (FeB, Fe2B).

The paper presents an analysis of the surface layer of Fe-Mn-C-B-Si-Ni-Cr alloy coating after friction with C45 steel. The coatings were obtained by arc welding (GMA). Flux-cored wires were used as a welding material. The flux-cored wires had a diameter of 2.4 mm. The tribological assessment was performed with the Amsler tribotester under dry friction conditions at unit pressures 10 MPa. The use of XPS spectroscopy allowed deep profile analysis of the surface layer. Based on the obtained results developed model of the surface layer for friction couple, hardfaced coating obtained from Fe-Mn-C-B-Si-Ni-Cr alloy – C45 steel. It was observed that the operational surface layer (OSL) of hardfaced coatings contained oxides (B2O3, SiO2, NiO, Cr2O3, FeO, Fe3O4, Fe2O3), carbides (Fe3C, Cr7C3) and borides (FeB, Fe2B).

Tribological behaviour of coatings obtained from eutectic alloy Fe-Mn-C-B-Si-NiCr was studied. The coatings were obtained by the method of gas metal arc welding (GMA) with use of powder wire. GMA welding method is widely used for the regeneration of machine parts. Eutectic Fe-Mn-C-B-Si-Ni-Cr alloys can be used to obtain high quality coatings resistant to wear and corrosion. Pin-on-disk dry sliding wear tests at sliding speeds 0.4 m/s and under load 10 MPa were conducted for pin specimens. During friction a typical tribological behavior was observed. The mechanism of wear was mechanical-chemical.

Computer animation has a positive effect on memorizing knowledge by students. Used in the process of teaching of technical subjects, it is conductive to the development of mind. Animation allows to familiarize the students with the schemes of solving technical problems and shows the mode of operation of machinery and equipment. In the technique, animations are used, inter alia, in the processes of designing, engineering calculations, visualisation and monitoring technological processes and visualisation of assembly processes. The article discusses the role of computer animation in the teaching process and the examples of applications using computer animation and supporting the teaching process of technical subjects. Selected examples of technical processes in both computer-aided design and manufacturing programs as well as in graphics and animation programs are presented.

This work discusses computational capabilities of the programs belonging to the CAS (Computer Algebra Systems). A review of commercial and non-commercial software has been done here as well. In addition, there has been one of the programs belonging to the this group (program Mathcad) selected and its application to the chosen example has been presented. Computational capabilities and ease of handling were decisive factors for the selection.
