Performance Evaluation of Hybrid-Drive Buses and Potential Fuel Savings in Brazilian Urban Transit

Transporting more than 55 million passengers per day, buses are the main transit mode in Brazil. Most of these vehicles use diesel oil and this situation causes dependence on oil, extensive greenhouse gas emissions and increasing air pollution in urban areas. In order to improve this situation the options for Brazilian cities include the use of alternative fuels and new propulsion technologies, such as hybrid vehicles. This article proposes a procedure for evaluating the performance of a recently developed Brazilian hybrid-drive technology. A simple procedure is presented to compare hybrid-drive buses with conventional diesel buses in urban operation focusing on fuel economy and the potential for reducing diesel oil consumption through the use of hybrid-drive buses. Field tests carried out by the authors indicate that fuel consumption improvement through the use of hybrid-drive buses would certainly exceed 20%, resulting in lower fuel costs and reduced carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

Environmental performance of freight trip generation hubs

A freight trip generation hubs has a large potential of environmental impacts caused, also, by transportation operation. Thus, it is necessary a method of performance assessment capable of identifying and evaluating the environmental impacts in order to monitor the performance over time and develop improvement actions. Therefore, this paper aims to propose an environmental performance assessment method of freight trip generation hubs. Documental and bibliographic researches were done in order to get this purpose and we get a structured method, consisted for 8 steps.

Modelo de quatro etapas aplicado ao planejamento de transporte de carga

This paper aims to analyze existing studies on freight transport planning that use the four step model, a tool that estimates inter-zonal traffic flows considering trip generation and distribution, modal choice and flow allocation; highlighting its comprehensiveness and usefulness in supporting the countrys socioeconomic development. A literature review was performed in indexed journals, theses, dissertations and technical reports, selecting 44 papers and highlighting 7 papers that fully focus on the four step model. It was verified that this model is versatile and can be used in full or partially; considering mass or vehicle flows, the latter being directly applicable to the design of traffic infrastructure; at all levels of geographical coverage (from municipalities to countries); and without limitations on the type of freight that can be transported by any of the five modes of transport or their combinations. Therefore, this model is a strategic planning tool and a support for the socioeconomic development of the country.

Otimização de rede intermodal para o transporte de soja do norte do Mato Grosso ao porto de Santarém

Este artigo tem como objetivo tem como objetivo propor e estabelecer uma configuracao otima para a rede futura de oferta de transporte prevista pelo Plano Nacional de Logistica e Transporte (PNLT) para o horizonte de 2023 para o escoamento de soja do norte do estado do Mato Grosso para o porto de Santarem. Para tanto foi elaborado um procedimento, analogo ao modelo de analise e previsao de demanda de quatro etapas. Foi possivel verificar que o Porto de Santarem pode ser considerado uma alternativa para a exportacao de soja oriunda do estado do Mato Grosso, visto que a oferta de transporte existente e planejada de Sorriso ate o porto de Santarem tem condicoes de atender a demanda de soja prevista para 2023, e que ainda apresenta um custo de transporte menor do que a alternativa praticada atualmente (utilizacao dos portos de Paranagua e Santos), podendo oferecer maior competitividade do produto mato-grossense no mercado mundial.

Improving post-sale reverse logistics in department stores: a Brazilian case study

Post-sale reverse logistics has grown in importance in the supply chain. As a contribution to scientific innovation, we present a structured procedure for reverse supply chain management of goods after sale. In addition, a comparison is made between the structures of direct supply chains by checking the similarity in terms of transport operations, inventory management and information management, which allows its application in the case study. This paper aims to suggest a procedure to structure the reverse logistics chain which is based on Process Management and consider three basic levels: Product Entry Management, Resource Management and Performance Management in the Reverse Logistics Chain. A bibliographical and documentary review was conducted in addition to a field research with a group of three department stores. The data collected from the companies using questionnaires and interview shows that the application of the procedure suggests that a better structuring of management in post-sales reverse logistics in the retail market can improve financial results in companies by contributing to reduce product returns and consequently its costs, improve efficiency in inventory and storage management, improve assets usage, increase revenue and promote social benefits such as donation of the products which was used and had been returned for charity.

Modelo conceitual do sistema logístico reverso do resíduo sólido urbano

A logistica reversa do residuo solido urbano vem recebendo importância ao longo dos ultimos anos devido ao aumento da geracao de residuos em paises em desenvolvimento e da necessidade de estruturacao neste setor. Estruturas e resultados diversos da gestao de residuos podem ser observados mundo a fora. Este artigo analisa as caracteristicas da estruturacao deste sistema atraves da revisao bibliografica narrativa. Foi observado que mesmo as estruturas sendo diversas, existem semelhancas nas suas atividades e caracteristicas, possibilitando o desenvolvimento do modelo conceitual do sistema logistico reverso do residuo solido urbano como conclusao deste artigo.

O transporte na cadeia logística da indústria cimenteira

O consumo de cimento no Brasil cresce de ano a ano, chegando em 2012 no patamar de 69 milhoes de toneladas. Sendo um produto perecivel e de baixo valor agregado, o transporte e considerado um fator estrategico para a manutencao da competitividade e do mercado neste setor. Diante disso, este trabalho tem como objetivo descrever o modelo da rede de transporte da industria cimenteira e utilizando como exemplo um estudo de caso da cimenteira Lafarge no estado do Rio de Janeiro. O artigo mostra que no Brasil, embora a industria do cimento movimente grandes volumes de insumo e produtos acabados, sua cadeia logistica depende exclusivamente do transporte rodoviario, destacando uma infraestrutura logistica deficiente que nao se encaixa no modelo ideal onde o uso de modos de maior capacidade, como ferroviario e o maritimo de cabotagem deveriam apresentar participacao. Esta situacao faz com que a eficiencia neste setor dependa de solucoes criativas que venham de forma a integrar as decisoes estrategicas da companhia.

Jogos de empresas aplicados à formação profissional para o setor portuário: O Caso do Jogo do TECON

O presente trabalho teve como objetivo demonstrar que o Jogo do TECON e adequado para apoiar o processo de formacao profissional para o setor portuario. Para atende-lo realizou-se uma pesquisa exploratoria e experimental cujos procedimentos foram a aplicacao do jogo do TECON seguida da aplicacao de questionarios. O grupo selecionado para o experimento foi a turma do 4o periodo do curso Tecnico em Porto do CEFET/Itaguai - RJ. Por meio do confronto entre o resultado obtido pelos alunos no Jogo do TECON (pratica simulada) e suas respostas aos questionarios (teoria) foi possivel identificar alguns padroes nas repostas dos questionarios que podem ser associados ao resultado do jogo, indicando aderencia entre teoria e pratica. E possivel afirmar que o ambiente simulado pelo Jogo do TECON possui requisitos para aprimorar o processo de formacao profissional para o setor portuario, entretanto, em funcao das limitacoes do experimento nao foi possivel generalizar este resultado.

Improving the environmental performance of trip generators: case study Sepetiba Tecon terminal

This article aims to identify how measures that promote sustainability in freight transportation can affect the environmental performance of a load trip generator. To achieve this goal the method proposed by Guimaraes and Leal Jr (2013) was applied in the evaluation of Sepetiba Tecon Terminal, which is part of the Port of Itaguai. Economic and environmental aspects were evaluated considering some attributes, such as value of service that refers to the service produced and environmental influence that refers to energy consumption, emission of greenhouse gases, air pollution, water pollution and ground water consumption and material consumption. Were considered road vehicles and cargo handling equipment to estimate the emission of Greenhouse Gases (GHG) and air pollutants related to port activity. It was also performed a sensitivity analysis. This analysis had the intention to assess changes that may occur due to the difference in the weights assigned to each indicator used in the analysis and see how this variation changes the outcome.
