The impact of a psychological intervention on quality of life in non-metastatic breast cancer

The aim of this study was to determine whether psychological intervention had a beneficial effect on the quality of life and behaviour of women diagnosed with breast cancer. 36 consecutive patients with non-metastatic breast cancer assigned to surgery and systemic chemotherapy were randomised to receive either psychological intervention (weekly cognitive individual psychotherapy and bimonthly family counselling) or standard follow-up. Personality (16-PF and IIQ), quality of life (FLIC), and depression (BDI) scores were the endpoints for this study, and the questionnaires were completed by the patients at diagnosis, and up to 9 months after diagnosis. Cognitive psychotherapy and family counselling improved both depression and quality of life indexes compared with the control group. Better emotional coping behaviours were also revealed by some changes in personality traits in the intervention group.

Response to K. Bartol, ‘P.Oxy. LXIV 4410, Fr. 1 and 2.1–5’

Abstract The current note is a response to K. Bartol’s arguments against my readings of P.Oxy. LXIV 4410. It questions her interpretation of fr. 1 and suggests an alternative way of understanding the expression πρόβα κατωτέρω in fr. 1.2.

The prologue of Philainis' "Peri Aphrodision"

Abstract Revised text of the prologue of Philainis’ Peri Aphrodision as transmitted by P.Oxy. XXXIX 2891 fr. 1, where I propose to restore ll. 3-5 as με/θ’ ἡ̣[δον]ῆ̣ϲ τὸν βί̣ον δ̣ι̣ε/ξα[ιρεῖϲ]θ̣αι. The supplement solves a textual crux and sheds further light on the meaning of the exordium of Philainis’ erotic treatise.

P.Oxy. LXIV 4410. A Comic Adespoton Re-examined

New readings in P.Oxy. LXIV 4410 fr. 2.1 and 2.5 suggest a possible reference to a class of intellectuals and a messenger involved in the action of the play.

Greek Astronomical Tables in the Papyrus Carlsberg Collection (with associated fragments from other collections)

Abstract The article includes A) an introduction on the Greek and Demotic astronomical papyri from the Papyrus Carlsberg Collection in Copenhagen, their provenance and relation to the Tebtunis Temple Library; B) a commented edition of five Greek astronomical tables from the Copenhagen Collection, with associated fragments from the Vitelli Institute in Florence and the Berlin Papyrussammlung.
