The use of building information modeling (BIM) in the Czech Republic is currently at the stage of being slowly established in the Czech building environment. From the viewpoint of applicability in the building industry, the issues of BIM in the Czech Republic are very desirable, mainly because of ever-increasing pressure on the sustainability of construction. This approach is gradually used by some, often multinational, construction companies. The article focuses on finding the possible optimization of approach to the planning and operation of buildings in terms of the energy sustainability of buildings.

The overall energy performance of the building is done by selecting the structural design of the building envelope [1], [2]. At present, the builder decides for the final selection of the design (material) solution of a passive house based on mechanical properties of materials, thermal technical properties of materials and cost of materials. Currently is increasing builders who are interested in point of environmental protection in relation to the choice of materials for passive houses. The paper deals with concrete solution of substructure detail and its evaluation in terms of both thermal technical and financial point of view and also in terms of materials and their relationship to the environment.

The overall energy performance of buildings is determined not only based on structural and material solutions of the building. Boundary conditions affect the results of evaluation of the energy performance too. This paper deals with buildings in the Czech Republic. The paper is devoted to the evaluation of energy performance of buildings under changing boundary conditions. This means the change of the intensity of ventilation, changes in the structures’ accumulation and influence of thermal connections.

In recent years numerous advanced materials technologies have appeared in the market or have been developed for use in construction. In civil engineering there are also numerous fields of application for these materials, which can be used for construction of new buildings as well as for reparation and improvement of older structures. In many cases the helical reinforcement is used for the improvement and rehabilitation of masonry structures. This type of reinforcement offers several advantages. It requires only minimal changes of the existing masonry elements and it introduces no visual changes of the rehabilitated structure. In the paper a numerical analysis and an assessment are presented of such a helical reinforcement for the improvement of axially loaded masonry columns.
