Male genitalia and associated internal sclerotised plates have been long recognised in beetle taxonomy, but their relative position in the connecting membrane and the genital membrane folding patterns have never been thoroughly investigated. In this study, the structure of the genital chamber in weevils (Curculionoidea) and other Coleoptera has been investigated in detail, focusing primarily on the alignment of the 9th abdominal segment and true genital plates. Three basic types of genital alignment are recognised based on the orientation of sclerotised plates and membrane folding: (1) a primitive eucinetid type (both 9th segment and tegmen non-inverted); (2) a derived phytophagan type (both 9th segment and tegmen inverted) and (3) a cucujid type (9th segment non-inverted, tegmen inverted). A different origin is here postulated for the parameroid plate in Curculionoidea, Chrysomeloidea and a part of the Cucujoidea (from the fold of the membrane linking tergite 9 with the tegmen) and for the true parameres in the remaining Coleoptera (from the fold of the membrane linking the tegmen with the aedeagus); hence these alignment types are considered non-homologous. The superfamily Cucujoidea was found to be heterogeneous with regard to genital alignment and considered polyphyletic. The proctiger and the paraprocts of the beetles are interpreted as belonging to the 9th abdominal segment and no extrategminal plates of the 10th segment were found in Coleoptera. Arguments for and against a hypothetical homology of beetle genitalia with abdominal segments 10 and 11 are discussed.

Last instar larva of Lixus punctiventris Boheman is redescribed and illustrated, its pupa is described and illustrated for the first time. Biology of this species is analyzed in association with larval morphology and feeding habits. Overall larval and pupal morphological diagnoses of the genus Lixus and larval diagnosis of the tribe Lixini are updated.

A phylogeny of the cucujoid family Boganiidae (Coleoptera) is inferred for the first time based on a parsimony analysis of 102 morphological characters (70 adult and 32 larval). The analysis resulted in a monophyletic Boganiidae divided into two main clades, Boganiinae and Paracucujinae, each supported by a series of synapomorphies. The Boganiinae genera recovered were Afroboganium Endrödy‐Younga & Crowson and Boganium Sen Gupta & Crowson, whereas Paracucujinae includes Paracucujus Sen Gupta & Crowson, Metacucujus Endrödy‐Younga & Crowson, Athertonium Crowson and the New Caledonian Dzumacium caledonicum gen.n., sp.n. New specimen data and biological information for the Australian taxa are summarized with overviews on biogeography and comments on the fossil Jurassic Parandrexis Martynov (Parandrexidae). Two new species of Boganium, primarily from the Australian mallee are described: B. malleense sp.n. and B. medioflavum sp.n. Boganium malleense is recorded from flowers of Eucalyptus gracilis F. (Myrtaceae). Adults and larvae of Paracucujus rostratus Sen Gupta & Crowson are redescribed. Athertonium parvum Crowson is redescribed and Athertonium williamsi sp.n. is described from coastal New South Wales. Several host records for Athertonium are also presented.

Abstract. A complete and updated list of 1,066 species and subspecies of the superfamily Curculionoidea recorded from Poland until the end of 2017 is provided, including over 290 comments on all taxonomic, nomenclatural and faunistic changes made since the first edition of the checklist published in 2005. An additional 37 species in the list are considered as erroneously recorded and excluded from the fauna of Poland. An update of the index of genera and subgenera, together with their type species, is provided separately. The following two new synonyms are recognised: Bruchela rufipes nigritarsis (Reitter, 1916) = B. rufipes rufipes (Olivier, 1790) (Anthribidae: Urodontinae), Otiorhynchus proximus iteratus Magnano, 2001 = O. proximus proximus Stierlin, 1861 (Curculionidae: Entiminae). Six species are resurrected from synonymy with the species given in parentheses: Squamapion serpyllicola (Wencker) (S. minutissimum (Rosenhauer)), Polydrusus thalassinus Gyllenhal (P. formosus (Mayer)), Phyllobius vespertinus (Fabricius) (Ph. pyri (L.)), Microplontus melanostigma (Marsham) (M. rugulosus (Herbst)), Otiorhynchus smreczynskii Cmoluch (O. rotundus Marseul), Romualdius angustisetulus (Hansen) (R. scaber (Linnaeus)). Phyllobius fessus Boheman is replaced in the list with Ph. jacobsoni Smirnov due to the former misidentification of Polish specimens. Brachysomus strawinskii Cmoluch is transferred from subgenus Hippomias to Brachysomus s. str. Eleven new weevil species have been discovered in Poland since 2005, including the still unpublished records of Pachycerus madidus (Olivier). The occurrence in Poland of four species, having hitherto only uncertain old records, has been confirmed with recent findings. The number of dubious species in Poland increased to 27 after the inflow of uncertain data in the literature and probable cases of extinction.
