A note on the 3D–2D dimensional reduction of a micromagnetic thin film with nonhomogeneous profile

Margarida Baía; Elvira Zappale

A 3D−2D dimensional reduction argument through Γ-convergence and relaxation techniques for constrained energy functionals is used to characterize the behavior of ferromagnetic (or ferroelectric) thin films with nonhomogeneous profiles.

3D–2D analysis of a thin film with periodic microstructure

Jean-François Babadjian; Margarida Baía

The purpose of this article is to study the behavior of a heterogeneous thin film whose microstructure oscillates on a scale that is comparable to that of the thickness of the domain. The argument is based on a 3D-2D dimensional reduction through a

Coupled second order singular perturbations for phase transitions

Margarida Baía; Ana Cristina Barroso; Milena Chermisi; José Matias

Structured deformations are non-classical deformations of continua suitable for the description of materials whose kinematics requires analysis at both the macroscopic and microscopic levels. In this work we obtain an integral representation of an energy for structured deformations of continua as a first step to the study of thin defective cristalline structures.

Generalized

Margarida Baía; Stefan Krömer; Martin Kružík

Abstract The aim of this work is to present a finite element method for the approximation of the steady solution of an incompressible second-grade fluid model in two dimensions. The equations for second-grade fluids form a system of nonlinear partial differential equations of mixed elliptic–hyperbolic type (in the steady state). Using a fixed-point argument, associated with the decomposition of the system into a transport equation and a Stokes system, existence and uniqueness of the approximate solution are proved and error estimates are obtained. This technique allows the construction of a decoupled fixed-point algorithm converging to the discrete solution of the original problem.

W^{1,1}

Margarida Baía; Farid Bozorgnia; Léonard Monsaingeon; Juha Videman

The asymptotic behaviour of a family of singular perturbations of a non-convex second order functional of the type is studied through Γ-convergence techniques as a variational model to address two-phase transition problems.
