The main usage area for reliable train wheel detection system is represented by axle counting systems for railway track vacancy. In many countries through the world, track circuit technology is superseded and replaced by SIL-41 certified axle counter systems. Modern axle counting technology is now an integrated part of railway safety signaling systems and it is able to provide critical information beyond track vacancy detection. One of the alternative approaches to the track circuit design uses a “check in/check out” principle. The main logic of this principle is that once a train is detected or “checked in” to a block, it is assumed to be present there until it is “checked-out”. Simulation of an axle counting system with virtual instrumentation and embedded myRIO devices is very useful for didactic purpose and understanding the working principles of the axle counters systems and inductive sensors.

Centralized Traffic Control system for railways overlaps hierarchically over interlocking and fixed block installations that allows traffic control between railway stations and represents the management core and organization of railway traffic. This paper shows the necessity of CTC use since this centralized control model decisions and related implementation actions concerning traffic control are carried out by the same entity and setting routes or changing signal aspects are tasks performed by remote control from the respective positions. Network management involves the centralized traffic control for an optimum system with the following functions: Ethernet network design; maintenance and control the local network security; remediation of faulty or failing system equipment; the correct management of the local network (IP, communications equipment, specific applications); maintaining appropriate quality standards in terms of network configurations. Presented simulation achieved in MATLAB can be used as a basis for designing an electronic track circuit for train detection and data transmission.

The paper presents a solution for reducing road traffic emissions and particulate matter from non-electric (classic) vehicles in cities by sharing cooperative driving information. Vehicles are equipped with dynamics and GPS sensors. Ad-hoc vehicular networking (VANET) is used as media for communication. A specific algorithm is developed to collect anonymous information and suggest to drivers best behavior in traffic. Other types of pollution, such as noise, are not analyzed here.
