In recent years, through the adoption of strategic planning processes, the main objective of cities and territories is that of becoming smart, it its different declinations, associating original, flexible ad intelligent technological processes. This work describes two researches that, starting from the common basic assumptions, have defined and created evolved frameworks that can generate “smart services” in support of integrated territorial development. The first study focuses on the definition of a usable platform in the ‘cloud’ environment with which integrated “smart services” can be developed. These smart services do not only promote the territory, thus creating value for the public administration as well as facilitating and stimulating the local economy; they also contribute to qualifying some specific management aspects such as those referring, for example, to the service of smart energy, or rather the optimisation, monitoring and remote regulation of production/consumption of energy even by means of service chains that involve manufacturers and service provider. The general objective of the second research, instead, consists of the necessity of providing services based on access to a geo-referenced database that is interoperable and predisposed to evolve towards new development scenarios, containing cartographic information associated with various information on info-mobility and road safety.

ABSTRACT The article describes the results of a research on the theme of regeneration of urban public spaces in historical centres. A multidisciplinary methodological approach of cooperation of various knowledge was adopted to define, also through the application of open and inclusive participatory approaches, precise intervention actions. The research uses two areas on the edge of the historical city of Cosenza (Italy) as a case study. The research, therefore, has achieved, among its main results, that of reinforcing the awareness that an urban context unable to maintain relationships loses its meaning and becomes but a museum of itself.

Since the task of urban planning and of the territorial government is also to promote development while maintaining recognition of the identity and the uniqueness of a particular area, this research project seeks to define and implement an Area Trademark (AT) to support the resources and potentialities of a given territorial context. This is achieved by implementing and providing a network of homogeneous, coordinated and complementary services that enable them to promote their identity and specific vocations. In line with the Europe 2020 Strategy and the regional and national programming documents, including the National Strategy of Internal Areas (NSIA), representing the subject of particular interest, our research aims, specifically, to create an Area Trademark in territorial contexts with a rural vocation. In particular, starting precisely from the rural vocation of the area and, therefore, from the rediscovery of agri-food production, from the reinterpretation in an environmentally sustainable key of both the environmental and cultural excellences present, this project seeks to increase the quality of services until they become an integral part of the landscape quality, focusing on the creation of an effective and efficient network of existing accommodation facilities.

The object of this work consists of the will to define a renewed relationship between spatial planning and transport systems, which focuses attention on road safety, whereas to date the studies on this relationship have mainly examined the transport impacts on land use. Therefore, in addition to the analysis of the physical characteristics of road infrastructure, there is a need to examine which urban land uses can generate points of risk, both in terms of attraction of vehicles and pedestrian flows as well as in terms of concentration of vulnerable road users, in order to organize a complete information and telecommunication system for road safety. In short, considering a specific testing ground, some urban land uses have been located, with relative dimensional analysis and characterization of access conditions in typological-functional terms: services (schools, healthcare structures, sports facilities); tertiary/production industry (wholesale, shopping centres, industrial sites); tourism sector (hotels, resorts, historical and cultural heritage). The collection of information, corresponding to mapping of prospective risk factors, represented the basis for the entry of specific data within a wider reference database.
