Nancy Morejón, ensayista: la ciudad letrada desde una perspectiva cubana

El ensayo, género frecuentemente utilizado por intelectuales y fi guras de la esfera pública en América Latina, cuenta con una sólida trayectoria continental. Cuando se alude al género, especialmente en relación a refl exiones sobre la identidad y proyectos nacionales, se mencionan los nombres de Andrés Bello, Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, Esteban Echeverría, Juan Montalvo, José Martí, Eugenio María de Hostos, Manuel González Prada, José Enrique Rodó, José Carlos Mariátegui, Eduardo Mallea, Ezequiel Martínez Estrada, H. A. Murena, Octavio Paz y Roberto Fernández Retamar, entre otros.1 Algunos textos, tales como “Nuestra América”, Siete ensayos de interpretación de la realidad peruana, Radiografía de la pampa, El laberinto de la soledad o Calibán se han transformado en lectura obligada para cualquier estudioso de la cultura latinoamericana. Hay también un número considerable de escritoras que han intervenido en los procesos culturales con sus ensayos, entre las que se encuentran Flora Tristán, Clorinda Matto de Turner, Soledad Acosta de Samper, Victoria Ocampo, Amanda Labarca, Teresa de la Parra, Gabriela Mistral, Alfonsina Storni, Rosario Castellanos, Elena Poniatowska, Margo Glantz, Beatriz Sarlo, Carmen Naranjo, Rosario Ferré y Diamela Eltit. La antología de Sara Castro-Klarén, Sylvia Molloy y Beatriz Sarlo, Women’s Writing in Latin America (1991), la colección de estudios sobre mujeres ensayistas editada por Doris Meyer, Reinterpreting the Spanish American Essay (1995), y el libro de Vicky Unruh, Performing Women and Modern Literary Culture in Latin America (2006) demuestran el aporte de las mujeres al género y su contribución a la creación de la cultura letrada. A Nancy Morejón (La Habana, 1944), connotada poeta cubana ganadora del Premio Nacional de Literatura (2001), normalmente no se la asocia con el ensayo que refl exiona sobre temas nacionales. Aunque para los especialistas su estudio sobre la obra poética y cultural de Nicolás Guillén, Nación y mestizaje en Nicolás Guillén –Premio UNEAC 1980, publicado en 1982– es un libro imprescindible, lo cierto es que Morejón también ha escrito ensayos sobre una variedad de autores y temas, tanto en relación a la historia

Género y representación literaria en la construcción de Eva Perón: narraciones de Abel Posse, Alicia Dujovne Ortiz y Tomás Eloy Martínez

This essay examines two novels and a biography published in the mid-90s that construct images of Eva Peron originating in texts of her own time and in successive recreations that have been done since then. Although the same sources and even the same anecdotes are recalled, these narratives offer considerably different portraits, and not just for ideological reasons. In an age such as ours, in which the social scientist and the novelist realize that they cannot speak for the other, and much less in the case of a historical figure who has become a myth, the discursive modality adopted acquires special significance. While in one case, that of Santa Evita, there is no illusion of recovering the true story, in the other two narratives there is a hint that new interpretations may be posited. These representations evoke also gender considerations, for they reveal an awareness that the character being represented is a woman who transgressed the notions of what it meant to be a woman, transforming herself into the leader of a political movement. Even if it is true that Eva’s persona continues to be elusive, the three narratives allow us to understand from our own times the life of a woman who was able to define herself, and whose decisions had real consequences .
