R.A. Howard,Combretum fruticosum (Loefl.) Stuntz e C. laxum Jacq.Palavras-chave: Combreteae, Combretoideae, flora paraibana, Laguncularieae, Myrtales, Nordeste brasileiroABSTRACT – (Flora of Paraiba, Brazil: Solanum L., Solanaceae). This taxonomic treatment of the genus Solanum is part of the “Florada Paraiba” project which aims to identify and catalogue the species of the local flora. Botanical collections, field observations andmorphological studies were done for identification, description and botanical illustration of the plant species, also supported by theliterature and analysis of Brazilian and foreign herbaria, plus specimens from EAN and JPB herbaria. Twenty two species of Solanumwere recorded in the state of Paraiba: Solanum agrarium Sendtn., S. americanum Mill., S. asperum Rich., S. asterophorum Mart., S.caavurana Vell., S. capsicoides All., S. crinitum Lam., S. jabrense Agra & M.Nee, S. melissarum Bohs, S. ovum-fringillae (Dunal) Bohs,S. palinacanthum Dunal, S. paludosum Moric., S. paniculatum L., S. paraibanum Agra, S. polytrichum Moric., S. rhytidoandrumSendtn., Solanum sp., S. stagnale Moric., S. stipulaceum Roem. & Schult., S. stramoniifolium Jacq., S. swartzianum Roem. & Schult. andS. torvum Sw. Three species are new records for Paraiba: S. ovum-fringillae, Solanum sp. and S. swartzianum.Key words: Flora of Paraiba, “Jurubeba”, Northeast Brazil

The purpose of the present work is to conduct an evaluation of the cytotoxicity of ethanol extracts and the total alkaloid fraction (TAF) from Crotalaria retusa for procyclic promastigotes cells of Leishmania chagasi. The kinetic study of extraction assisted by ultrasound of the total alkaloids present in Crotalaria retusa made it possible the optimization of the extraction parameters. It was evaluated the leishmanicide action of the TAF which did not show toxic activity for cells of the parasite in high concentrations. It was observed a powerful leishmanicide action of the ethanol extracts (10 and 30%) after the concentration of 5.6 mg/mL of Crotalaria retusa, and the ethanol present in the extractive solution (10 and 30%) in the concentration from 70 and 210 x 10-4 %, respectively. These results suggest that the cytotoxicity of the ethanol extract of Crotalaria retusa at 10 and 30% for cells of Leishmania chagasi, can be associated only to the concentration of the alcohol present in the extract.

Abstract In this manuscript three taxonomic changes are proposed based on multivariate and univariate analyses of morphological characters from collections of Terminalia in the Neotropics. Sixty-six morphological characters were examined from Terminalia reitzii, T. triflora, and T. uleana, of which only 12 were considered informative for morphometric evaluation and analyzed by the Kruskal-Wallis test and principal components analysis. As a result, T. reitzii and T. uleana are synonymized under T. triflora, and we propose a new circumscription for T. sect. Diptera. In addition, morphological, distribution and conservation aspects of T. triflora are discussed. A key to the South American species of T. sect. Diptera is presented.
