Mulheres e homens: diferentes também na percepção das notas musicais?

The objective of this study was to evaluate the perception of musical notes D, F, and A in young adults. The study included 20 men and 20 women, aged 18 to 29 years, healthy, non-musicians, and non-users of drugs or other toxic substances. Participants did a two-alternative forced choice discrimination test of musical notes, in which they were asked to select the stimulus that was previously presented. The frequency of correct discrimination of the musical notes was compared between both sexes. Statistically significant differences in the musical note F were found. Men had a higher number of hits than women. These results suggest differences in the perception of musical notes by women and men.

Discrimination of musical notes by women and men after acute alcohol consumption.

This study compared young adult men and women regarding the discrimination of musical notes following acute ingestion of alcohol. It included 20 men and 20 women aged 18–30 years (women: M = 21.95, SD = 3.14; men: M = 21.65, SD = 2.73). This was a discrimination test of musical notes through the psychophysical forced-choice method, in which participants had to choose between two alternatives: the musical note that contained the sound frequency related to note D, F, or A, after the presentation of a standard sound frequency. The results showed significant differences between groups when comparing men and women after the ingestion of alcohol only in the D note. We found also significant differences in the comparison group of women under the influence of alcohol with each other, in the D note, and the group of men under the influence of alcohol among themselves in the F note. These results suggest that acute alcohol ingestion can change the auditory perception of men and women regarding discriminating specific musical notes (sound frequencies).

Haptic memory and forgetting: a systematic review

Memory is a multiple system composed of encoding, storage and retrieval of information subsystems. The memory tactile, haptic memory submodality is connected to haptic perception; it concerns the active manipulation of objects. This study is a systematic review related to forgetting occurred in haptic memory. Articles was sought in electronic databases PsycINFO, PubMed, and Web of Science, using the keywords “haptic memory”, “touch memory”, “tactile memory”, “tactual memory” separately, and then combined with the word “forgetting”. These words were identified in 1655 publications. But lastly, six articles published between 2002 and 2012 were selected by a set of inclusion criteria. Largely referred to studies that used behavioral methods recognition procedures, and using real objects. However, the types of memory test used and the number of objects and the time interval between sessions of study and test had great variation.
