The authors presented a pharmacognostic characterization of the crude drug popular known as pata-de-vaca utilized as diuretic and hipoglicemic agent. Anatomic and morphological description accompanied by drawings. A fitochemical approach of the leaves was also made.

Pfaffane-type nortriterpenoids from Pfaffia pulverulenta

Abstract Pulveric acid, 11-deoxopulveric acid, 11-oxopfaffic acid and pfaffoside G, four new hexacyclic nortriterpenoids, have been isolated together with ecdysterone, rubrosterone and pfaffic acid from Pfaffia pulverulenta . The structures of the new compounds were elucidated as 3,11-dioxopfaffan-12-ene-28-oic acid, 3-oxopfaffan-12-ene-28-oic acid, 3β-hydroxy-11-oxopfaffan-12-ene-28-oic acid and 3β-hydroxypfaffan-12-ene-28-oic acid-(28→1)-β- d -glucuronopyranosyl ester, respectively. 13 C NMR signals were fully assigned using 2D NMR techniques.

Abstract Iresinoside, a new yellow pigment, has been isolated from the crude drug ‘Brazil ginseng’, the roots of Pfaffia iresinoides . Its structure was elucidated by chemical and extensive spectral analyses.

The authors present a morphological and histologycal study of the leaf of Gallesia integrifolia (Spreng.) Harms, analysing the most characteristics elements for its identification. A screening the histochemical reactions in leaves are also given. Fresh and crude drug are histochemically analysed.

The root and the stem of the botanical specie Mikania laevigata Schultz Bip. ex Baker, commonly known as guaco-do-mato, were morphologically and anatomically studied. It was concluded that there are very small anatomical structures differences between both the vegetal drugs and was proposed the observation of the consistence apex and base fragments of the leaves to assure the differential diagnosis.
