This study aimed to evaluate possible association between change in the conflictual relationship pattern of a 48 year-old, woman, assisted on brief psychodynamic therapy, and the therapist’s therapeutic strategy. Yet it was evaluated the magnitude of change of psychopathological symptoms at the end and follow-up interviews (3 and 6 months) according to self-report measures: Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS), Symptom Assessment Scale40 (EAS-40), Emotional Adjustment/ Neuroticism Factorial Scale (EFN). The relationship pattern was assessed based on the Core Conflictual Relationship Theme – CCRT method and the therapeutic strategy according to the degree of expressiveness vs supportiveness of the therapist’s interventions. Results pointed out to clinically significant improvement on symptoms and partial change on the central relationship pattern. Interventions were more expressive at the beginning of the process and more supportive as improvement has been observed. Generalization of results demands caution. The methodological design allows comparing different individuals.

The study aimed to evaluate possible associations between nature of the therapist intervention and the patient response, in key-moments of different phases of the psychotherapeutic process. This is a case-based research, with an exploratory character. We have analyzed transcripts of early sessions (1st and 2nd sessions), middle (6th and 7th sessions) and end (10th and 11th sessions) of brief psychodynamic psychotherapy, with Model of Cycles Therapeutic (TCM) and classification of Therapeutic Interventions (IT). TCM is a computerized method of analysis that identifies key moments of the process, named therapeutic cycles. The IT were classified into expressive and supportive. The results suggest that interventions are modulated by the responses of the patient and the specific tasks of the therapist, regardless of stage. Also no association was observed between cycles and the rapeutic modality of intervention. Some limitations concerning the applied instruments are pointed as source of possible bias.

The article presents psychotherapy research to complete a qualitative view of the tendencies in this field. Seven special sections about this issue published between 1995 and 2005 in an important journal of the American Psychological Association (APA) are analyzed. It verifies that the great emphases in the field - the search for scientific evidence and the combination of the research and clinical practice - are still the focus of the discussions, mainly the debate about the controlled clinical essays. Less intensive production in the period but more objective conditions to a possible approach between the researchers and the clinicians are observed. There are still challenges, now searching new directions.Key words: identification; psychoanalysis; metapsychology.

Psychotherapy research field in Brazil and its exponents need visibility. The aim of this study was to present and analyze part of the scientific production of the Brazilian researcher Elisa Medici Pizão Yoshida through a narrative review. Information reported on the researchers curriculum lattes were analyzed, as well as academic publications available online or physically. Elisa Yoshida published 65 articles on scientific journals between 1990 and 2013. These articles reported results from researches conducted in the Post-Graduation Department in Psychology of the Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas (PUC). The average number of publications during the 23 years she worked at PUC was 2.8 (SD = 1.52) articles/year. The publication of articles with specific focus on research reports on psychotherapies corresponded to 49% (n = 32) of the analyzed production. Analyzing the researchers trajectory and academic production, it was observed the development of a consistent and coherent career, with clear objectives, that started with concerns that came from clinical practice in Brazil. Over time, integration of clinical practice and knowledge production consolidated and she was nominated president of the Latin American chapter of the Society for Psychotherapy Research (2007-2008). Concerns with the development of a body of knowledge in line with the Brazilian reality and empirically based characterized
