The Virtual Organisation and Enterprise Modelling have become important topics starting with the mid 1990’s. This relevance comes from the positive combined effects expected by a business process reengineering and the particularities of the virtual organizations that fit very well to market challenges. A more advanced specialization, often found in the virtual organisations, gives a plus in terms of efficiency and productivity by an optimized business process. A particular well developed domain, for such type of organisations, is the informational system that can be seen as foundation for the business process reengineering. The paper presents relevant data and results for organisation architecture modelling. The architecture referred herein apply to enterprise and virtual organisation too, meaning that the improvements obtained by applying the business process reengineering for enterprise, can be foreseen, even with amplified effects, in the case of a virtual organisation.

Different works on the functional design and functional vocabularies area have been accomplished. The function has become the key element of the design process of a product and many researchers have focussed their work on developing functional taxonomies which can be used as a basis for functional design. One of the main disadvantages on the research performed in this domain is that a clear correlation between proposed functions and a product part or structure cannot be shown. This paper presents a new configuration of a functional taxonomy which can be easier correlated with the structure of the product, as an input of a knowledge database for supporting engineering design activity, as well a structure of the database system and a preview of its content.

Various studies on the quality characteristics of products manufactured in different industrial conditions have been accomplished. The quality characteristics of welded metallic structures depend of the material and geometrical characteristics of the components, welded gap, welding speed, scheme and time of components fixing, etc. The paper presents main elements of an industrial research on the dimensional characteristics of a certain welded metallic structure. The research method used in this paper is the systematic analyse in industrial conditions, including welding robotised cell and 3D advanced measurement system.

Various architectures exposing certain phases of the design process have been developed. A closer analysis of the presented timelines is leading more to postpone the design solution rather than advancing it in the early phases. This paper advances a new architecture for the design process with the main emphasize on the product functional design, based on functional-constructive knowledge stored in databases, and on the principle of selecting design solutions in an incipient phase and developing them during the further design process stages.

The milling of blade surfaces has been treated in different works, with focus on tool type, process and system conditions, CNC programs, simulation for 3D machining, etc. This paper presents some basic theoretical and practical aspects related to the milling of blades and other associated surfaces of parts like rotors/ impellers, which are found in components of aviation, industrial turbo engines or turbochargers. The relevant analyze has been performed concerning the distinction of specific surfaces of impellers, the distinction, basic relations and determination of critical geometrical parameters associated to impeller and, correspondently, to the milling tool, as well the geometrical parameters for adjusting relative position of certain system parts.

The importance of information technology service management, ITSM, is fully recognized today. All companies, regardless of their size, accept the role of IT services and products, as the main supports for decision and control activities. The present contribution aims to analyze the main steps in the evolution of ITSM and its evolvement as a well-defined domain. There are analyzed, also, the main economical and technical factors influencing its evolution - the increase of competition among the IT service providers, the technical progress in hardware and availability of digital technologies.

Recognition of manufacturing features associated to certain parts using DXF files have been proposed by a number of reseraches. Since the database stuctures that provide geometric information regarding the parts differ from one CAD system to another, the interpretation and modification of these data are difficult or impossible. This paper presents an algorithm for extracting the design features from a data exchange file format, supporting the development of automated process planning system for prismatic parts.

Industry is one of the economy sector with an important impact over the environment, such as natural resources depletion, energy consumption, pollution etc. It is essential that engineering companies perform their research, design, implementation and exploitation activities in order to contribute to environmental preservation, and, in the same time, to be aware and use the sustainable developments that have already been achieved. The present main contributions are the revealing, critical analysis and characterization of case studies on sustainable solutions regarding different extraction, processing and power plants, as an important support for the completion of a new database system with eco-achievements from different fields.

In dental microsurgery, different dental instruments are used for teeth microsurgery and related diseases. The dental instruments materials are very different, e.g., plastics, stainless steel, titanium alloy, cobalt chrome alloys, diamond powders. The dental instruments materials must be nontoxic for the human body, with good corrosion resistance, mechanical strength and aging resistance, as well a high degree of cleanliness to allow sterilization in good conditions. Few representative dental microsurgery instruments, as well as relevant characteristics of some specific materials are presented.

Design and deployment of the manufacturing processes are based on complex data concerning product development, process structures, planning, costs. Applications within the computer-based engineering are conditioned by the information system. Storage and use of specific data are concentrating in databases. The present contribution is on the development of basic elements for creation a database system on turning processes, usable in engineering activities. The main part presents the information model that provides neutral data interfaces system for machining processes. Implemented under Microsoft Visual Basic macros, this database system supports the integration of manufacturing requests. Based on stored information and initial data provided by user, the designed database system offers variants of technological elements. Structures and relationships are provided.
