Zusammenfassung Di-t-butoxytin(II) (I) and bis(trimethylsiloxy)tin(II) (II) remove carbon monoxide from tetracarbonylnickel. Dimeric I acts as bridging bidentate ligand but dimeric II coordinates with only one tricarbonylnickel moiety. Bis(triphenylsiloxy)tin(II) does not react with tetracarbonylnickel under similar conditions. With pentacarbonylmetal(VIa) acceptors the coordination behaviour of the siloxystannylenes is less selective.

Abstract Contrary to earlier reports the reaction of sodium trimethylsilanolate with stannous chloride does not yield bis(trimethylsiloxy)tin(II) (1) but a polynuclear compound of the type Sn2O(OSiMe3)2 (2). 1 is obtained from the reaction of stannocene with trimethylsilanole. The compound is a dimer that gives rapid exchange reactions of terminal and bridging trimethylsiloxy groups in inert organic solvents.
