Eluisa Bordin Schmidt; Neri Maurício Piccoloto; Marisa Campio Müller

The post-partum depression is a condition that affects 10 to 15% of the women in the post-partum period. These symptoms begin at some moment during the first year after delivery, occurring more frequently between the fourth and eighth week after parturition. It is generally expressed through a complexity of symptoms where there is a presence of irritability, frequent crying, feelings of abandonment and hopelessness, lack of energy and motivation, lack of sexual interest, disturbances in sleep and eating patterns, anxiety, and feelings of not being able to cope with new demands. The objective of this paper is to present a bibliographical revision regarding the post-partum depression. Conceptual and epidemiological aspects, risk factors associated with their occurrence as well as a few repercussions of the post-partum depression in the mother-child relation, and the development of the infant will be broached. The awareness of these aspects has become very important due to the harmful consequences suffered by the mothers as well as cognitive, social and emotional development of their infants.

This study investigated the frequency of depression in individuals with cardiovascular disease, with or without an acute myocardial infarction (AMI) diagnosis, and individuals with no cardiovascular disease. It is a prospective study with 168 patients of both genders, from 35 to 65 years old, divided into three groups: 60 inpatients (diagnosed with AMI), 49 outpatients (diagnosed with cardiovascular disease without infarction), and 59 of the general population (without diagnosis of cardiovascular disease). The groups were investigated by applying questionnaires, which included the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and the Quality of Life Test (WHOQOL). The prevalence of depression in the AMI group was 48.3%. The variables that remained significantly associated to depression were: family history (OR=2.82 - 95%CI=1.12;7.08 - p=0.028), WHOQOL psychological domain (OR=0.93 - 95%CI=0.89;0.98 - p=0.006), and anxiety score (OR=1.08 - 95%CI=1.02;1.14 - p=0.012). These results suggest that depression disorders are not triggered post-AMI but can be present before admission to the hospital, which shows the need to investigate people with chronic coronary disease.

Vinícius Renato Thomé Ferreira; Marisa Campio Müller; Hericka Zogbi Jorge

Atopic dermatitis is a skin allergic disease, which increases its incidence each year, thus, demands more researches in order to minimize its social impact. The influence of psychological factors, when developing such an illness is known. Stress and anxiety are usual factors that affect the immunological system in a severe way; such psychological factors characterize atopic dermatitis as a psychosomatic illness. Three families were investigated in a qualitative framework, through the use of a semi-structured interview. Family perceptions and elements related to the family dynamics, concerning atopic dermatitis, were studied, once one child in each family bears the illness. The families reported that atopic dermatitis had damaged the whole family in psychological and social aspects, consequently, influencing the family relationship and influencing in the intensity and frequency of symptoms due to the increasing stress, besides interfering in the family communication and relationship.Atopic dermatitis is a skin allergic disease, which increases its incidence each year, thus, demands more researches in order to minimize its social impact. Psicodermatologia: uma interface entre psicologia e dermatologia

Marisa Campio Müller; Denise Gimenez Ramos

The aim of this article is to present some results of the author’s doctorate thesis. The theme of the thesis was a study with patients suffering from vitiligo, through the analytic approach, in order to see vitiligo as a possibility of symbolic manifestation of the psyche/body relation. Thirteen women were part of the study, whereas ten were given medical and psychological assistance for six months. Among these women, five were given group psychological therapy, and five received individual psychological therapy. Three patients were given only medical assistance for the same period. This differentiated assistance aimed at assessing if there would be any difference to the patients’ clinical answer (condition of repigmentation). The results indicate that the analytical model allowed the symbolic comprehension of the vitiligo disease as a manifestation of unaware contents which needed to be integrated to consciousness. Those patients who received both medical and psychological treatment presented a higher percentage of up to 80% of repigmentation while the ones who were under medical assistance presented only 20% of repigmentation. This results showed the importance of a joint work in the psychosomatic manifestation diseases.

PSICOTERAPIA E BIOÉTICA: APROXIMANDO CONCEITOS, APERFEIÇOANDO PRÁTICAS

Martha Wallig Brusius Ludwig; Luciana Balestrin Redivo; Hericka Zogbi Jorge; Marisa Campio Müller

Issues on the link between Psychology, therapy, training and Bioethics are provided and discussed. Current discussion is justified due to the fact that Bioethics has become an important subject in the context of contemporary technological and scientific improvements as a whole. It is thus essential to discuss Bioethics in all its specialties, taking the human being as its focus and center. Since Psychology deals with human beings, it may be highly contribute towards the solution of dilemmas in Bioethics and its importance may be highlighted within this area. Consequently, the manner bioethical principles may be transposed to the psychotherapeutic process is of paramount importance. Current essay reflects on the ethical dilemmas that the psychologist may face, on the use of the Term of Free and Clear Consent (TCLE) in the psychotherapeutic process, professional training, among others. It shall also shed some light on less discussed issues for reflective, albeit not determinant, contributions.

Current statistical data point to high rates of prevalence and death among women undergoing breast cancer (INCA, 2004). This issue could be minimized through the self exam practice, since this procedure is considered a facilitating element in early diagnosis. This research aimed at knowing the practice of breast self-exam in women, representing the population of PUCRS, wich is a university. A mixed methodology was used (quantitative and qualitative) and as a tool, semi-structural questionnaire was applied in a sample of 215 women. The results show that only 25 percent of researched women refer to the habit of practicing breast self-exam periodically as a preventive care. The study also enhanced that all women recognize the importance of this practice however, many times they don’t know how to do it or don’t remember to do it and many other times they do it in an inappropriate way (related to frequency).
