The advent of new, multistandard mobile phone devices is an important challenge for antenna designers, as they have to implement integrated antennas with multiband operation within a volume that is rapidly shrinking. In the paper, research results concerning the input return loss, radiation characteristics and efficiency of novel internal, planar, multiband patch antennas are presented.

The advent of new, multi-standard mobile phone devices is a real challenge for antenna designers, as they have to implement integrated multiband operation within a volume which is rapidly shrinking. Some investigations concerning the input return loss, field distribution and efficiency of a novel internal, quadband patch antenna are presented. With a combination of metallic patches and slots, four different standards can be covered with one single, small antenna.

This paper describes the specific development of a high-data-rate 57-64-GHz point-to-multipoint wireless local-area network communication system and the worldwide first installation of such a system into an aircraft cabin mock-up. All of the system components, from the RF-chip-set, the low-temperature cofired ceramic integrated antennas, and RF modules to the baseband processor, the medium access control, and the application software were purpose-designed for a wireless backbone for in-cabin communication. The integration aspects of these system components into a passenger aircraft cabin mock-up (ceiling and passenger seat-integration) as well as successful system performance tests were carried out and are reported here.

Todays mobile phones are becoming smaller and smaller. Integrated antennas have thus a promising future when dealing with dual-band mobile handsets, since size and price requirements favor the use of planar antennas, such as the planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA). Some investigations on the reduction of the volume occupied by dual-band, planar integrated antennas for personal communications handsets are presented.

Multipurpose PCMCIA devices require the use of integrated multiband antennas, usually with a dual-port configuration. In this paper, some investigations concerning the input return loss, isolation, radiation patterns and efficiency of a novel internal, multi-standard antenna system integrated into a PCMCIA card are presented.

The rapid evolution of the mobile phone market requires the development of terminals, which can operate within different nets, and implement different standards. In most cases, these terminals feature multiband antennas. In this paper, some investigations on the influence of plastic carriers on the performance of a novel internal, triple-band patch antenna are presented.

This paper illustrates the problems encountered in the design and fabrication of a 60 GHz antenna on DuPont 943 LTCC substrate. The antenna will be used for highly integrated WLAN modules in the 60 GHz frequency range, foreseen for future high data rate systems and broadband multimedia applications. The effect of material and fabrication tolerances will be analysed.

With the advent of new multimedia communications applications, antennas with ultra wide band capabilities (UWB) will become an important issue when dealing with different kinds of everyday terminals. This paper introduces a small antenna to be used in UWB handheld communications devices.

This work presents a low-cost RHCP planar antenna array for FPV ground stations. Its small size makes it suitable for groundstations with tracking capability for video transmission at 5.8GHz. The antenna shows good matching and radiation properties, as well as robustness against tolerances in the material properties and the fabrication process.
