Verification of Set Up Dual-Chamber Pacemaker Electrical Parameters

Martin Augustynek; Z Labza; Marek Penhaker; D Korpas

The measurement on a dual-chamber cardiostimulator consists of the construction of a unit for the simulation of the cardiac action in a patient’s body. It has an adjustable amplitude (0 - 20 mV), frequency (0 - 100 Hz) and mark-space ratio. The system output impedance should be in the range of 200 - 2000 Ω. It is possible to add a defined noise into the output channel. It is further possible to measure the tolerance of sensing of the atrial and ventricular channel of the dual-chamber cardiostimulator DDDR.

Notice of Retraction Controlling Peacemakers by Accelerometers

Martin Augustynek; Marek Penhaker; David Korpas

Presently is used for controlling pacemakers measuring by one vibration sensor or a movement sensor, which is placed on a pacemakers case or on a tip of stimulating electrode. As movement sensor is used a piezoelectric crystal or an accelerometer. Suggested solution uses two accelerometers placed on patients body so it is possible to extend a set of detected movements and also we can detect patients position (sitting, lying, standing position etc.). On the basis of suitable processing of measured data is pointed out patients physical activity, which is one of the main input parameters in algorithm for controlling pacemakers. Usage physical activity would significantly reduce an amount of parameters, which are entered by setting pacemakers.

Classification Method for Macular Lesions Using Fuzzy Thresholding Method

Jan Kubicek; Marek Penhaker; Iveta Bryjova; Martin Augustynek

The paper deals with analysis of image data macular lesions. In clinical practice, there is a problem with identification of macular lesion. Those pathological changes are fairly sufficiently observable. On the other hand, there are complications with computing and investigating their area. To the best of our knowledge, there is no any proprietary software for automatic extraction and classification stage of macular lesions. The proposed algorithm offers suitable way for automatic extraction. The core of the algorithm is based on the classification individual pixels to output classes. Each class represents specific object in the image. After taking classification process, individual objects are separated. By this approach we obtain mathematical model of analyzed lesions. Furthermore, segmentation method uses color mapping of shade level images. It means that we obtain color intensity image instead of shade level data.

Finger Plethysmography Classification by Orthogonal Transformatios

Martin Augustynek; Marek Penhaker

The paper aims at presenting problems and prospects of possibilities for automatic evaluation of finger plethysmography by use Fourier and wavelet transform. To these days no special proceeding exists, which could be used for the exact analysis of plethysmographycal recordings. It is why we elaborated the method which could lead to creation of the systematic method for the automatic evaluation of a plethysmographycal record. This method is also suitably completed by the use of wavelet transform which enables compression and filtration for saving disk space for data storage.

Marek Penhaker; Radka Geyerova; Jan Kubicek; Martin Augustynek; Katerina Panackova; Vilem Novak

This work deals with the user interface assessment of weariness and vigilance diagnosis. The goal of this work was to Establish the algorithm for assessment and statistical evaluation of mental performance effected, would vigilance. Individual tests are performed in graphic form and focus on memory and reaction time. Test results are stored in a structured database. The system compares the results in five age categories. It is one of the few instruments that are capable of analyzing objectively lack of sleep or sleep disorders occurrence. The application is designed for all ages, although older generation may be a problem with computer operation. The Measured medical information are statistically processed and compared with normal values selected group of people. The program was completed and tested on 92 people in collaboration with University Hospital Ostrava and were created classification groups.

Extraction of Myocardial Fibrosis from MR Using Fuzzy Soft Thresholding Algorithm

Jan Kubicek; Iveta Bryjova; Marek Penhaker; Martin Augustynek

The article deals with complex analysis of myocardial fibrosis. Myocardial fibrosis is standardly examined by MRI. MRI generates image data with higher resolution but data are monochromatic. Due to this fact it is complicated to recognize individual object from images. Furthermore there is not any clinical software which would be able to objectify examination in the sense of extraction area of myocardial fibrosis. The proposed algorithm allows transformation area of myocardial fibrosis to color scale and thus it creates mathematical model of fibrosis. Mathematical model of myocardial fibrosis conclusively recognize area and manifestation of observed object. The proposed segmentation procedure serves for effective feedback for clinicians in the context assessing diagnosis.

Sixty inappropriate defibrillation shocks in several days due to lead displacement

David Korpas; Jana Haluzíková; Marek Penhaker; Martin Augustynek

Background: Implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) are active cardiac implants for immediate treatment of ventricular arrhythmias. They provide life-saving therapy, but may also deliver inappropriate therapy. nMethods and Results : The present report describes a rare occurrence of many inappropriate ICD shocks because of lead displacement shortly after implantation. A 57-year-old overweight man received 353 antitachycardia pacings and 60 shocks of 41 J in total, all within 13 days. The device records show a decrease in the sensed R-waves and pacing impedance fluctuation. nConclusion: The ventricular electrogram signals recorded and shock channels were typical for lead rubbing.

Pacemaker Battery State Checking by Stimulation Pulse Width Detection

Michal Gala; I. Vajdikova; Branko Babusiak; Marek Penhaker; Martin Cerny; Martin Augustynek

Pacemaker therapy has indispensable role in therapy of many cardiac diseases. Lifetime of implantable pacemakers is several years. The time of right guaranteed functionality is limited by battery lifetime. The pacemaker battery state verifying is realizable by programmer of the concrete producer. This solution is costly. The other method of pacemaker battery state checking is analysis of patient’s electrocardiogram. The paper deals with possibilities and methods of pacemaker battery state verifying and propose a motion for suitable system creation. The final system will provide the information about battery state. It will be embedded system with small size which will be used by general physicians and by patient at home as well.
