Publisher Summary This chapter highlights the effect of bestatin on immune responses and tumors. Bestatin augments the establishment of delayed type hypersensitivity to sheep red blood cells over a wide dose range and increases the number of IgM antibody-forming cells to heterologous red blood cells in mice at high doses of more than 100 μg/mouse. Bestatin exhibits inhibition against mouse tumors that are sensitive to treatment with immunomodifiers and enhances the therapeutic effect of cytotoxic antitumor compounds. Bestatin stimulates differentiation of polyclonal bone marrow progenitor cells to granulocytes. Bestatin, which enhances the activity of the mouse immune system, has been shown to exhibit similar effects in cancer patients.
