NTSC/PAL/SECAM digital video decoder with high-precision resamplers

Yoshito Suzuki; Toshihiro Gai; Masaki Yamakawa; Hiroaki Sugiura

This paper presents architecture of an all-digital multistandard video decoder that uses a single crystal oscillator of fixed frequency. The proposed digital video decoder requires no analog component and is based on a fully synchronous design. Resampling schemes that create line-locked sampling and burst-locked sampling are described. Phase jitter of 1 ns or less is achieved using 27 MHz clock, and 3-D (3-dimensional) Y/C separation becomes feasible in the free-running clock system. High-precision digital phase-locked loops and fractional delay filters implement resampling of video data, which eliminate the need for analog PLLs that generate clocks locked to input video.

Wide band 3D Y/C separation circuit for PAL system with reduced memory size

Toshihiro Gai; Masaki Yamakawa; S. Higashi; T. Inoue

This paper reports newly developed 3D Y/C separation circuit of PAL system, which has been realized with a minimum frame memory structure, the same as that of an NTSC system, and has no deterioration of high-frequency components.

Development of a field sequential color view finder for color video cameras

Masaki Yamakawa; Akira Kanai; Atsushi Nishibayashi; Masaharu Hayakawa; Shinsuke Shikama

A miniature high-resolution color display unit has been developed as a view finder for consumer color video cameras. This field sequential color display system produces a color picture without the use of dots. This system is a great improvement over color liquid crystal displays, solving problems such as resolution and color representation. Resolution is dependent upon the time compression circuits performance. This color display maintains good contrast under a variety of light situations, including those out of doors, because the color filter, which is located in front of the CRT (cathode ray tube) screen, reduces reflection of outer light on the display area. >
